WINNING BIKE: Aaron Gwin's Prototype Specialized Enduro EVO 650b

@kidwoo
True. That's because unlike @FCTRY I am very much interested in the equipment ridden in competition.

WINNING BIKE: Aaron Gwin's Prototype Specialized Enduro EVO 650b

@FCTRY
Right, bikes do not win races.
But bike sales do pay for race teams.
So without self-important manufacturers trumpeting about their latest products to drive their sales, there would be no professional riders competing. And you could not talk about people who ride bikes.
So frankly your argument is pretty useless. If you don't care about the equipment being ridden in races, don't read the articles about that equipment. Let alone comment on those articles.

Visser's Blue Steel Meets Kelly's Hot Girls

It's not Knolly, monstertiki.
It's a shitty brand called Kellys, and as no one would look at their dull products, they feel obliged to have body-painted girls at their booth and walking the aisles of the show. A nice way of admitting that your products are nothing to write home about. Safest way for a company to be ignored by me: Have some body-painted babes at your booth.

It does not matter if dealer mailings are for public consumption. It's even making Specialized's dishonest two-face approach more blatant. And yes, they have to eat their own bloody words now and reeducate their retailers that have been told how little sense 650B is supposed to make before.

The bottom line remains unchanged: Negative campaigning is BS in cycling. Advertise what you sell, do not talk nonsense and trash about competitors' products. As for Niner: I don't give a f... about that brand and Chris Sugai in specific. Never supported them, never will.

Specialized did not just say that they do not see much benefit in 650B, they really kicked off a negative campaign against it in dealer newsletters. And negative campaigning within the bike industry is massively wrong. Specialized is building a lot of decent and interesting bikes, they have no reason to be foul-mouthed about other brands' concepts. But If they want to behave like dicks, they are free to do so. They should just not expect me to buy their product as I prefer not to support brands that act like dicks. There's plenty of other brands that do not need to do so.

Nice Öhlins shock, by the way.

Prototype Giant 650b Carbon Trail Bike!

Sweet to see Giant enter the 650B game. Although I would have expected them to put a completely revamped Reign on that size of wheels rather than some long-travelish Trance.
Next up: An all new Trek Remedy with 650B wheels, that platform is due for a complete overhaul. And then there's one big company left that keeps on yelling "no one needs 650B, 29ers for all!" Guess what company that could be.

I would absolutely love to see the following scenario to happen: Chris Ball, Tarek Rasouli, Chris Roberts and Raymond Dulieu join forces. They set up an association of its own that is rider-driven and not fat-bloke-dominated and biased towards endurance ... more »

Added a comment about product review 2013 Test Sessions: Mondraker Foxy XR 3/29/2013 9:35 AM
Mudstud

We've had a Foxy XR in a test for Swiss magazine Outdoor-Guide. The test loop was technical, with lots of tight cornering, some choppy bits but few real high speed sections. Thus we also took the bikes to the cable car for some shuttle rides with higher speeds.

Our impressions were pretty much the same as with the VitalMTB testers:
On pedally sections and steep climbs this is not an efficient bike, and it has an annoying tendency to understeer on technical descents. Weight distribution is a must, meaning you really have to put your weight on the handlebars. We felt the handlebar was way too high and the Foxy XR might be a much better overall performer if that was fixed.

As it is, it's a rowdy enduro banger that does not have all the travel you'd wish for when pushing it to its limits.

Still Doing it Wrong

If you folks want to be foul-mouthed about anything based on this pic, it's neither the fine folks of Taiwan nor Tom Ritchey. It's the fault of all those who pushed friggin tractor wheels aka 29ers, lifting handlebars to silly heights and thus bringing up the need for inverted rizers, flipflopped stems as in Tinker Juarez' worst times and more like that. Waiting for the first 29er with the handlebar mounted to the fork crown, actually.

An Ode to 2003, Inverted Singlecrown Fork

First: This is an inverted fork for Snow Bikes.
Second: It's not a random fork, it's from "SASO", the AM market of Mekkem Parts, specialized in all things carbon.
Third: You'd be surprised if you were ever to see a list of Mekkem's OE partners.

Taiwan is still being underestimated by miles, but don't worry, they use that to their advantage. It's smart people over there, after all.

Is it just me or do these wheels look - uhm, biggish? Might be 650B DH rig, which is going to be the big thing for PMB's pedally world champs course.

Hell yeah, Joey is properly enjoying himself, jibbing Mt.Bullers track. Ace video that makes you wanna ride.
But please, add a "v" to the lad's name in the title... he deserves to be spelled properly.

@sspomer Nice that at least one webzine checks for embargo dates (Shimano's marketing department loves this topic 4 sure), as many contracts are still valid until the end of the calendar year. If you can add some info and depth to the existing and untimely leaked press release, that is all the more welcome. Keep up the good work @VitalMTB.

You guys must have enjoyed the Xmas holidays, as Sam Hill's new team has been communicated on December 23.
It's gonna be CRC-Nukeproof, which leaves us with the question: Who will take Sam's spot next to Troy Brosnan?

Like the pics, but not this trashy euro dancefloor sound.
That dude getting stopped by the sponsor's banner is hilarious, and Sheffield Steel has a sketchy moment as well.

Yeah, Mr. Perakis! Dude was working as a sales rep for (tataahh) Dainese in Switzerland for a while after he retired from racing. But his nickname was rather "Bug Man" than "Darth somewhat". Oh yeah: The bike was a one-off from Francis Glatz, named "ATZ" ... more »

Interbike 2011: KS Seatposts

The sweetest thing about KS is that they offer a lot of variety in their line-up:
You get their posts not only in 30.9mm and 31.6mm diameters, but also in 27.2mm - great for all owners of slightly older frames (including me).
And you have the choice for I-beam or conventional clamp styles and straight or offset heads of their posts. Thumbs up for that!
Oh, and did I mention their color options?
