Maxxis literally recommends it in their answer above your last post.

@ccolagio - exactly what B.Radly said. Everyday riders started running 30+mm rims and our 2.3 and 2.4 width - and even old 2.5 - tires would end up too squared off. The side knobs would be on top of the tire which isn't ideal for cornering. It was a major undertaking to switch to WT as it required re-engineering our current treads and cutting entirely new molds for them. Narrower rims are generally lighter and our tires still perform well on them (see any WC DH or EWS podium for proof) which is why many pros run such setups.

Hope that answers your question.

Patience boys. Maxxis will no doubt have several more casing/compound options in a matter of months.

Yeah, yeah, but have you ever known me to be patient ?

And yes, many hate MaxxTerra but the rolling resistance differential is massive. I love DH tires but can't justify the lack of speed for 99% of my riding.

Our WT tires are designed around 30-35mm rim widths. That means they’re ideally suited to those widths, not that they won’t work on narrower rims. We developed WT tires because of the trend toward wider rims in the market. As a world class athlete, Troy’s needs/demands on his equipment is much different than yours or ours.

That guy was at least partially full of bologna. EXO+ is SilkShield and EXO together. SilkShield covers you bead-to-bead and EXO provides another layer of protection on the sidewall.

@Colin the MaxxGrip compound is the same across the board. There's not a different formulation for one tread pattern over another. The difference in feel is down to the tread design/knob shape. The Assegai has some big ol' knobs on it.

It's 2019, bizutch! Everyone is on tubeless. Good catch though. It has been added to the review.

Definitely a bit shortsighted of Kona on your rims. Ghetto tubeless could be an option for you.

We have the Rekon in EXO+ but just the 2.60 width currently.
