Added reply in a thread Rear tyre - fast rolling, good cornering - Aggressor, Minion SS, Rock Razor 3/27/2018 8:46 AM

@traildog -> good points. I guess we'd need to compare apples to apples. The SS and RR blue addix would be equivalent to the Slaughter Control as opposed to the Grid. And we'd have to compare the Grid to the SS Double Down or RR Super Gravity. Someone

DHF 2.5 WT up front and Aggressor 2.3 rear currently, on a Stumpjumper 29. Slaughter is my fav rear tire of all time for most of the year conditions in northern Utah, and in my experience the Slaughter beats the Minion SS and the newest Schwalbe Rock

Thanks for the replies Dave & Meeko. I'll try to demo one this summer. Funny my Lyrik 160-130 for my Stumpy was a new take off from a Slash. I'm not against going all in next time and trying a coil on my next bike as long at it meshes well with the kinematics and has a climb switch.

I definitely think you are missing a bike...
But solid review nonetheless, really enjoyed that!

Although I think you went halfway on this. You wanted to do a back-to-back, strict comparison of the bikes. Well bike makers don't make the parts, so why would you have different parts on each...more

In a DH or DS race, sure. I do think this is one of the best comparative bike reviews I've seen to date, although on race day I'm going for a red bike because everyone knows red is the fastest color.

"Which is the fastest bike?" Easy, the one with the fastest rider smile

Thanks Dave. How does your Slash climb? Curious as this is one of my two hesitancies to swapping to a longer travel 29er (1. climbing, 2. making descending too easy / boring in non-tech terrain).

I like your list. Would be very interesting as the Scott and SC are better all rounders and Intense/YT better dh mobsters. Is there really much dif between the 150 and 160 29er crew?

Yo Brian - we could crowd fund it. Dead serious put me down for $10. If we get 1,000 supporters we can buy Vital......... oh wait, 1 or 2 bikes. Nevermind. Fail.

Also - sorry but disagree that the Intense qualifies as "boutique".

Also test runs with flat and clipless pedals. I'd also like to see runs with tight fitting clothing and looser clothing to see if that actually affects times. If you end up doing varying body types could you be sure they have significantly different shoe sizes? I'd be curious if the extra...more

Agree. The base level Enduros are priced very well. If only I needed that much travel...... maybe I'll demo one this year (currently on an up-forked Stumpy29 (160-130 dual position fork)

...and no one has said it yet, but the best "Value" here is the Specialized bike. Who woulda thunk it?

Man, this was the best bike review/round up I've ever seen. My only critique for next time is to have more test riders with varying body types, like a tall rider, a 'racer' vs someone with more of a 'freerider', etc

Looks amazing in black. Dope wheelset. Considering a Smash for my next rig.

Very good shock, as I ran one last year without any real complaints. The only issue is not directly with this shock, but how the industry as a whole still uses bushings at the mounting points. For three bikes in a row now, I have swapped out to needle bearings, and they allowed...more

I’ve been running the Topaz on my Stumpjumper 29 since October. Awesome shock, the tunability is great especially dialing in a more supportive and progressive rear end. The climb setting isn’t as firm as I’d like for northern Utah climbs, most of which are non technical. Looking forward to the Topaz 2.0 already spotted on team Giant’s bikes. Looks like a DPX-2.

I’m about 215 pounds and run 200 psi in the bladder and ~290 in the main air chamber with 3 volume spacers in the positive. This air pressure is consistent with a Monarch Plus Debonair (the closest competitor by design) I’ve tried on the Stumpy also where I had to almost max it out at close to 300 psi to get the feel I was looking for.

Great shock I even had DVO tune the stack to firm it up a little in mid and firm mode. Gonna keep tweaking and see what a spacer in the neg side will do. Overall I’m very happy with the shock especially when jumping and pumping. Very likely I’ll check out the Topaz 2.0 when it’s released. And DVO was kind enough to design Stumpy and Enduro compatible mounts so u don’t have to run a bike yoke.

First off, my 50mm KORE stem is affordable, sexy, and bulletproof, so generally speaking I'm a fan of the brand. But I'm not quite sure who this wheelset is targeted at. Does it have any advantage over a stock Stan's ZTR Flow EX set from their site, which weighs a few grams less, includes DT Swiss hubs, and retails for (only) $595? My bike came with a Flow wheelset and if I upgraded, rather than keeping a "mid range" $500+ set, I'd probably drop $1000 and go with American Classic, Industry Nine, or Mavic. This looks priced higher than the budget-oriented rider, but not as high as the upper-mid to premium price range so not quite sure who the target market is......

Tried and true design everyone is using these days, but does it offer anything new? I can still dig it, though. Sweet colors, sweet brand.
