Any word on tire width? I feel like last year he was running 2.3 or something on the narrower side like that

Agree, although I do think there could be some new sections and even possibly putting the cameras in different sections to provide us with a bit of a different feel.

Added a comment about feature The State of U.S. Downhill Racing According to Neko Mulally 3/18/2019 6:51 AM

I like Neko's thinking. Given the riders at Windrock, I wonder if there is a real opportunity for the Southern States to put together a spring series that can be a good tune-up for WC riders (simply, a lot closer from a travel perspective for Euro based teams).

With Gee's comments on rebound and Bruni's interview, are we seeing riders moving towards softer suspension settings (maybe more progression) and faster rebound? I think an early inside line podcast talked about this a bit (can't remember who). I tried this myself and the traction is awesome in the rough but you do miss a little on smoother tracks for pumping/playfullness

Added a comment about video Why Does Loic Bruni's Suspension Work So Well? 2/28/2019 12:25 PM

You have to be a great rider like Loic and have the team to setup the equipment. You can't have one or the other. The skill of both Loic and his team are what make this happen. I don't think this thinking undermines Loic's skill. He's an outstanding rider and it's that ability coupled with the rest of the team that gets this type of performance.

Best of luck next season Loic!

The sad thing is if you want to get points for the WC, it's almost more cost effective to go to Europe than flying around for this BS.

Added a comment about feature Vital MTB Test Sessions: Five of the Best 27.5 Downhill Bikes Raced and Reviewed 1/9/2019 8:18 AM

I hear you but I am not sure a fully agree. If you're a WC rider, you get what 8 runs to prove who is the fastest for the season? The sample size in the context of racing DH kind of makes sense.

The video makes it seem like both rider had ample time and setup time on all the bikes so that they felt comfortable and then you need to lay down a race run. I think what's interesting is that certain bikes tended to work well for both riders in certain terrain but overall the fastest bike was the one that suited the riders style or maybe help compensate for the riders style weaknesses. I would agree with you if they just hopped on the bike and did a run but it appeared that both riders had ample time to get comfortable with the bikes.

Added a comment about feature How to Make Everyone Happy with Rampage 10/29/2018 2:29 PM

Establishing the "Line Score" prior to the riding is the best idea I've heard (Don't they do this with diving?)

This does two things:
1) You could have a "Best Dig" award for the highest line score with prize money that goes to the Rider's dig crew, who clearly put in so much work to make Rampage happen. Additionally with the broadcast, you can highlight the dig team and that process more (plus this gives them content for down time during the live feed).

2) This brings the start to much needed detail to the scoring; 25 points for Line, 25 for tricks, fluidity, and speed. To spommer's point, the judges definitely know their stuff and love the sport so some more detail would allow us and them to explain their thoughts more.

I agree this predictability things is a big deal, but this appeared work incredibly well for the first go.

I wonder if in the future they will offer more a "gravity" setting where more emphasis is placed on the angle of the bike (i.e. going down) and have more of delay towards flat/uphill settings in their algorithm.

Added a comment about feature Vital MTB Face Off: The Best Flat Pedal Shoes 7/27/2018 7:44 AM

iceman, I have experienced the same type of longevity as you mentioned here. One thing I did notice when I had a pair that lasted around 14-16 months of riding is that I think the stiffness of the shoe became a little weaker but at that point the shoe had really been through the ringer.
