If built right the carbon wheel can flex vertically to help prevent pinch flats (see slo mo video)

Added a comment about feature Sneak Peek: First Glimpse of SRAM's X01 Drivetrain 6/19/2013 4:24 PM

Dudes, I gotta say My XX1 group is amazing. It is not perfect, but after 6 month and 10 races it is a game changer and i can't imagine going back to a front derailleur. The range (for me) is perfect.
The XX1 cassette is about the same weight as XTR 10 sp. This pic looks to be an XX1 cassette.
Why wait to release 2 groups a year later than release them as they design them?
The X9 cranks are hollow, and have the same splined spider mount as XO/XX1.
It looks like they chose a 104mm BCD, that could make it less expensive to make, and that ring could be used on other 104 cranks.
The rear Der is probably as accurate as XX1 but without carbon and expensive pulleys.
All Good!

Favorite rider ever. The fact that he made that himself with just a Go Pro is amazing.

While it's easy to point out the lack of vertical descending one must understand it's still spring. At first i wasn't too interested in attending either..but of course, spring rolls around and everyone is signing up and ready to RACE! I had a great time despite the courses being pretty pedally. Great camaraderie, fun trails and an excellent overall event. Remember, there is a MBE race in moab that has 7000' of descending late summer when the high mountains dry out!! The Enduro Cup at Canyons Resort had 1500' of climbing and 3000' of descending last year with one gondola ride and 2 climbs. I think America gets it.

I have no affiliation with Ibis but i think they're a cool company. The geo is definitely old school with the high and tight ride. Thanks for the 15 minutes of entertainment!

Come gain ajax? I'm a big fan of my XTR brakes, but i must admit the XO Trails i have are lighter and more powerful. A little grabby but that is low on my concern list.

Added a comment about product review 2013 Test Sessions: Yeti SB66 Carbon 4/12/2013 7:15 AM

Ahh man, i work in a shop and we talk about it every day. It sounds like BS..but i find it to be quite noticeable. If a alu bike is light then it's flexy which is BAD. In the case of the Yeti, the alu is stiff, but a bit on the heavy side. Even stiff alu bikes flex, and when they do they spring back into shape afterwards which is like a shock with a blown damper. Carbon will flex but shoot back straight again without the reverberation so the bike stays straighter when pinging through rock gardens and out of tight corners. Off camber roots are one of the more noticeable areas where the bike tracks straighter so you can hold the line with less distraction. Quiet light and fast! It's a lot easier to identify on a rigid bike, go try a carbon road bike for a mile or two. Incredible acceleration but with a smooth ride at the same time.

Just checked my 34- no oil over the air piston. Added 15cc and it feels like it should. Thanks for the heads up.

The Fox 34- if any of the vital members have read into the 40 Float, the air spring is similar to what is in the 34. There isn't, however, the air volume adjust under the top cap like the 40. The 34 is extremely linear out of the box. I have had great success by raising the oil level on top of the air spring by as much as 20cc's. It comes stock with 5cc's of Float Fluid. Adding oil adds progression, and therefore allows lower air pressure as well. Fox offers air volume reducing spacers for the rear shock and we have had good luck there too. Same deal, reduce the volume, lower the air pressure, get great suppleness and better bottoming control. Since it didn't seem to be an issue perhaps one of the volume spacers is already in the shock. We had to do some massaging to the RP23 but the CTD seems better out of the box.

We agree completely agree with the comments about the Shimano drivetrain. We updated our spec to the new clutched derailleurs and a double crank on the Race and Pro kits as soon as we could, unfortunately the bike we provided for this test had last years Race kit. The clutch...more

As far as we're aware, USAC is the only national body indicating that they intend to enforce the rule. The relative ease of permitting an event really has little to do with it.
