Shimano SLX is a much better value already. 12 speed is dumb.

Having ridden 12 speed Gx for the past few months, I'd personally not be in any rush to upgrade if I was on 11-speed. It is a bit easier on really steep climbs in that lowest gear, admittedly. However the shifting is not as smooth and the rear derailleur cage has a design flaw...more

11 speed has more than enough range as long as you're not going much slower than walking speed. 10 speed or less would be more practical for mtb to be able to get up and down through the gears faster. I'm usually shifting 2-4 gears at a time on 11 speed already.

So the takeaway? All brakes suck.

Talking about shimano without mentioning the leaking pistons that eventually happens to all of them, every single model is only part of the picture. It's a key component to why those things have to be pumped up. They will always eventually get air in them though that...more

It's a bit of an indication of people's expectations of Shimano brakes when "mostly consistent braking" is listed under The Good.

I am personally going to box up all the old 26 inch tires I have laying around the house and send it to their corporate office in Akron Ohio, with a note saying: You killed these, you can bury them

When i moved all my cranks over to a 30mm spindle, i found that i was going through bbs like crazy, almost one every other month (raceface). I...more

To help make sure your bars are properly lined up with the fork, put a straight edge or ruler of some kind across the fork stancions. You now have a larger reference point on which to adjust your stem and get your bars straight.

Well, if you look into it you'll find that there isn't any science behind the Catalyst pedal. In fact, you'll find that the studies that James Wilson refers to just backs up flat pedals in general, and that there is nothing there that indicates that a longer platform should be beneficial. Hint: if that was the case, why isn't the pedal offered in different sizes to fit different people? That said, I suppose its ok to like the Catalyst pedal, just don't tell me that the design is based on some kind of science :-)
