The Pinion P series gearbox (here, the P.12) uses a pull-pull grip shift style shifter. This is the only way to shift the P series box. The C series is configured differently - it too uses the grip shift style shifter, but can be adapted to use a special brifter or trigger set up - see, for example, the Cinq shifters: https://cinq.de/en/shifting-technology/ - I think these use a ratcheting gear cover to step through the gears. I have not used these, but if it requires you to step through the gears one at a time, then it defeats one of the advantages of the Pinion - you can shift through as many gears as you want in one motion. This is useful when you are approaching a steep climb in a higher gear, or cresting a hill into a descent and you want to dump a bunch of gears and get up and go.
