And regarding the equations to find balance (FC: RC vs WB/2-RC)... there are not large differences in these approaches. Why you think a literal ratio scales "horrendously" is still beyond me, because that's what it does by definition. Your equation,

The confusion is occurring because you're making wild exaggerations to underscore your point. You might also observe that you're the common variable in every bit of contention on this thread so far; perhaps the resolution has less to do with correcting ... more »

Ah, now I get it. You just want the bike that we're all saying we don't want. Good news for you: every single bike being made is closer to 'C' than it is to 'B', in your examples. I think you're still wrong in telling me what I want, however: - The Nukeproof ... more »

Which reviews? I can find none so far. (Although this is a Dengfu open mould frame, and I'm sure I can find a review of that if I look hard enough). Ninjichor-- I still don't understand what you're actually looking for or where your numbers are coming ... more »

Very interesting point. I experimented with this a few years back, and permanently changed my riding balance and style. But I never looked at it as effectively lengthening the amount of bike behind my center of gravity. I didn't realize that's what I ... more »

I don't really take offense if Ninjichor wants to call the style of riding I'm aiming for, "defensive." That's certainly not how a spectator would describe it after watching me ride by on-course. I ride at the limit, and I'm looking to push the limit ... more »

Transition’s ethos has always been “play” rather than “race” and their native trails are high in flow/berms, low in rocks/gnar. The promo videos for the Sentinel were mostly guys hitting huge, tractor made jump lines, which explains a lot. Also consider ... more »

Playfulness is an imprecise blanket cliche that gets used so often it means almost nothing anymore. Reminds me of "Climbs surprisingly well for a [xxx]mm travel bike." The general MTB public has been coached to believe that a short chainstay = "playful" ... more »

Might be a reference to my earlier mention of the SB5.5 (and SB6) as the last of the balanced Yetis, and the 130 & 150 have adopted the trendy long front/short rear design. I think Jeff's responses are spot on here. Ninjichor-- I'm also unable to ... more »

Yes, so much so that the Vorpsrung video calls his bike (and riding style) out specifically. I know people like to point out that Sam is a freak, but that is painfully obvious and doesn't actually negate the point. He's constantly riding off camber lines ... more »

This has been recognized in other sports-- that you use quite a bit of mental energy propping yourself up in extreme stances that vary greatly from a "neutral athletic position." The team physiologists starting arguing about it a lot in pro road racing ... more »

Added a comment about press release The Trail Party Series Introduces Gravity Stage Racing 2/7/2019 3:32 PM

Spoken like someone who's never tried to be competitive at an elite level enduro. The weekend is long and stressful AF. It takes an incredible amount of logistics AND fitness just to get your practice laps in, and then you've gotta worry about leaving enough in the tank to race well. It's certainly not what I'd call "relaxing," and these guys want to offer a care-free weekend where you're still finding out who ripped the descent fastest. Why does that insult your sense of bike-gaming so much?

Look, this format will never be considered a test of pedaling fitness combined with descending skills. But luckily we have this format call "Enduro" to find the best riders in that regard.

Don't even get me started with this "earn your turns" XC bullshit, though. Go enter a DH race and tell me how fresh you feel after 4 mins of racing.

I have given you some wrong impressions about my preferences. No, I would *prefer* a very long bike with modern angles and lengthy reach. Just *not* at the expense of imbalance between front and rear. I would almost rather race on an older style geo ... more »

I'm looking for bikes that sit close to the 1.7 FC:RC mark (or, a chainstay that is ~ 60% of the front-center). I haven't done the dual scale test to see what the weighting results are from that arrangement. I just know that bikes with that relationship ... more »

The SB5.5 and SB6 have better numbers than either of the newer Yetis (130 & 150), as well as any bike released this year as far as I know. Which is sad because Yeti used to be great about making balanced, neutral riding bikes. They've drunk the kool ... more »
