Green day were cool once?!?
That would be a test I’d like to see too.
When the Pinkbike review complained that the Top Fuel didn’t have a enough anti squat I knew it would be a bike I’d love.

Nice work Spomer! I want to do a cage fight between this and the Trek Top Fuel I've been on.
I think light weight smaller travel is the way to go..... I’ve got a 5010 130 front and rear and it’s a super fun bike on all the descents but is snappy enough to make the climbs and flats exciting. I ride mainly desert gnar and raw downhill in Tucson and there are very few times...more
Different story Joe. I don’t think anyone has issues with impaired people riding them. However, that’s max 5% of the eBike market.
The rest are just lazy, instant gratification types that are all too common in society these days.

Buy a dirtbike. Ride it on the track or trail. They're super fun to climb! Ride your MTB on MTB non-motorized trails.
The problem is they're GONNA HURT TRAIL ACCESS FOR MOUNTAINBIKING!
You're probably right in that e-bikes will get cheaper and better and than way more people will ride e-MTB. And we will lose...more
The problem is they will hurt trail access. I've seen plenty of e-bikers out on the trails that WILL hurt themselves and/or others because the barrier of MTB being hard (to get to the top at least and cover ground) is almost non-existent with an e-bike. They have no clue what they're doing out there. More hikers...more
The paid brand ambassadors you mean? Take away the sponsorship obligations and "pros" wouldn't ride an e-bike. But you go right ahead...
This is a tough one. My experience with *apparently* new riders on e-bikes has not been bad per se, but also not good. The notion of earning your downhills by climbing is kind of a lame retort unto itself, but it has some merit. In building up to be able to climb to the good trails, I learned a ton about bike...more
Would you please tell me what differentiates a mountain bike from a dirt bike, i.e. at what point does a bicycle become a motorcycle? I’m not necessarily opposed to ebikes but the fact that they have a motor, tiny or large, makes them a motorcycle of some sort and it’s an incorrect categorization to include them...more
glad JCL had the balls to say that lol! now to the bigger issue you say your popping off everything on the way up?!? no one should be caring enough speed up hill to be popping off things its bad for the trails and dangerous for biker coming down the trails.
My second paragraph: I compared cyclocross bikes and mountain bikes to drive home the point that I am not discounting e-bikes as a form of bicycle. Just like I compared telemarking and traditional downhill skiing. They are all bikes, they are all skis, they are just different forms of them.
I never said e-bikes...more
Great article and totally agree. People who like riding these boat anchors were the guys who sucked on normal bikes.

A bike that turns everyone into Nino Schurter on climbs, allows beginners access to the highest (often rowdiest) trails and doubles the distance/trail degradation they can do in the same time is a completely different sport.
Yes I’ve ridden a couple. My comments stand.

It’s a great post but I do wonder how long they’ll last for heavier guys and slack SA’s. IMO anything over 170mm should be 34.9mm and have a proprietary sized stanchion.
