Added reply in a thread How many pros CAN'T manual? 8/2/2019 4:00 PM

I'd argue that a true manual is coasting wheelie off the seat; standing only. For the question I can manual on demand for up to 15 ft or 5m, after that my consistency falls way off. Sometimes I can get a good one going most times not. For reference I ... more »

Added a comment about feature WINNING BIKE - Richie Rude's Yeti SB150 7/2/2019 11:54 AM

Jeff, Have you considered that Richie cannot talk about all the details of who's bottle it was he shared and the circumstances around it? To my knowledge, Graves hasn't had his decision yet. Legal proceedings being what they are, Richie is likely constrained on what he can say until Graves's case is decided and done.

To a degree I get why people have the pitchforks out and are ready to burn the dopers but if looking at both the Rude/Graves and Maes cases and considering the overall history or EWS testing, it's somewhat informal nature then things become much more understandable.

Now however all athletes should be very aware of what they ingest and the repercussions.

Lighten up dudes.

Richie got busted, served his penalty, and is back in the game, whatever the back story is. He's a young powerhouse with a long career ahead of him. I'm sure he'll be a lot more careful who's bottle he sips from now.

And damn, what a return!?!

4/5 stages won? Very impressive!

Look at the middle to bottom of the Masters results and then realize all those guys and gals would likely have the KOMS on all top local and wider trails. Then go back and look at the top pro times. Allow the jaw to drop. The top pros are truly on another level. Very far end of the talent spectrum.

Is that rear cable for braking data or is there an accelerometer on the rear triangle? Would love to know what you learn from the data if you can divulge as I am running a 150 this year.

Interesting how he doesn't have the inside pins installed on his pedals.

Anyone know what kind of tape that he's got on his crank arms? I've seen on it on some other bikes as well I think. Would provide protection and some friction against side of shoes.

Added a comment about product review What Does Vital Think? The New Santa Cruz MEGAtower 3/19/2019 6:31 PM

Brandon, would you please make some comparisons between this and Yeti SB150? I think you did the review/first ride of the 150 as well. I've got a deposit down on a 150 but Megatower definitely is now a contender for a race bike (Masters class BME type stuff). I'd probably go L on 150 and XL on Megatower. Part of what has me interested in the Mega is rear axle flip chips. Lengthening rear center to match the long front and for fast tracks is very appealing. Also to go short for tight stuff is cool. SB150 I have one demo ride on and was definitely impressed. I'm around 165-170 so "flex" of Yeti doesn't concern me.

Ninjichor, you have mentioned you are buying a custom frame before. Who are you having build it? On the topic of length adjustable dropouts I don't think sliding dropouts would work too well but you could do flip chip style dropouts and build in 20mm ... more »

He's on a medium bike so 435mm reach and 435 mm CS. On 27.5 wheels. I bet that bike is pretty balanced

Great thread I'm definitely only looking at bikes with 443mm or greater CS for this seasons race bike. At 73" tall with an arm span of 75" I end up on longer bikes so I can have enough room and for stability but for sure when reach gets long it really ... more »

Thanks for writing that up. Gives me another good data point and your impressions are similar to what I've read/heard from others and also are in line with what people in the Moto world say about the Flexx bars for offroad moto.

I think I'm going to try a set out. My shop doesn't demo them but I'll put a bug in their ear to see if they want to.

I'm thinking of these from a enduro racing standpoint, they might not make times any quicker but being fresher for the last few stages could certainly translate to some time.

Here are my thoughts:

Pro: The elastomers are noticably active in damping the smallest of chatter. Although forks have gotten much better throughout the years, they still have quite a bit amount of static friction. That's why linkage forks are so appealing but as you can tell, are very difficult to get right...more
