Its pretty clear you have not actually ridden an ebike JCL, so your comments are as usual for such fairly incorrect. If you use the mode that makes you Nino, your ride will be pretty short. I actually found it usually adds very little to distance, but is a more consistent workout due to man handling the bike more due to weight of bike, and fact your overall pace is higher meaning you must stay in it and not daydream even on the climbs. If its road climbs, well its still better than a shuttle rig, and would negate your complaint to access and degradationon. I would also argue that trail degradation on just trails is not much more either, Its rider skill that brakes hard, rips turns, and generally shralps a trail into need of repair. This can be done on any bike by a good rider, and I would argue better on a "regular" bike. Those "other" less skilled riders are gonna blow the tops off berms, ruin bench cuts, and round off drops irrelevant of what style bike they ride.

More people accessing trails may be a legitimate complaint, but honestly these new riders are only going to ride the "rowdiest" trails once. When they walk their 45-55lb E bike down the trail, they will not be interested in doing it again. "new" riders to the sport will be on green and blue trails, or cement paths after a couple "mtb rides"

I've been mountain biking for quite awhile now (1988). I've owned many different bikes over the years, DH, Freeride, Enduro, trai, etc. I recently bought an Ebike and I will never go back to a mechanical/traditional mtb.
I've found climbing to actually be creative and FUN now!-having the ability to pop off of everything on the way up is amazing. Other than occasionally enjoying a random, easy-ish climb when your mind wanders and blends with the meandering undulations of the climb, Climbing SUCKS! (for me at least) Ebikes have turned this SUCKS into FUN!. Additionally, I've found descending, jumping etc. top be equally as fun and in certain scenarios, more fun than a traditional mtb. Once I adapted to the extra weight, I found the extra heft to be an asset to descending-the bike is more stable and glued to the ground than any traditional bike I've ridden.
I also did not find it to be overly slow or cumbersome. I respectfully disagree with everything you've stated in your article. I would venture to say that within 2 years, when Ebike's prices and weight drop, 50% of people will be riding Ebikes.

Awesome bike check. Do you ever have problems with rubbing on a 2.3" rear tire? Maybe if it's muddy does it rub rocks or dirt into the carbon? I'm afraid of going too wide on a back tire for mine
