Added a new video Prime Time // Shoulder Season in Whistler, BC 7/31/2019 9:40 AM

Shoulder season is a special time in Whistler, BC. It’s when the air is cool, the people begin to dissipate and the trails are in prime condition—and the best part; it happens twice a year. Locals Zander Strathearn and Ian Morrison enjoy the lush dirt and tacky trails of the Whistler Valley during this ever-fleeting window. Get involved and stay up to date with WORCA happenings. -- Subscribe to Freehub Magazine! VitalMTB readers save 40% on subscriptions with our Shared Reader Discount. Added a new video Classic Okanagan // Trail Touring Penticton, Kelowna & Vernon 7/23/2019 12:45 PM

While the British Columbia’s Okanagan Valley might be best known for its countless vineyards, the region’s sprawling mountains are equally ripe with singletrack. Penticton, Kelowna and Vernon comprise much of the valley’s populace and all offer trail networks that define the area’s riding. Johnny Smoke and Sonya Looney sample some of the Okanagan’s best singletrack as they make their way north through the valley. Added a new video Stories from the Dirt // A New Era of Trails in Québec City 7/2/2019 2:41 PM

Québec City has a history engrained with cycling, but recently the province has seen a new era of trailbuilding on its slopes. With decades-old tech trails, world-famous racetracks and purpose-built flow trails, the region has plenty of everything. Added a new video Beyond Dedication // Vernon Huffman's Pursuit of Passion 4/2/2019 9:33 AM

Vernon Huffman doesn’t take short cuts. When he wants a certain IPA, he brews it. When he sees the opportunity for a trail, he builds it—legally. When he wants to give mountain bikers access to the amazing trails of Marin County, he fights tirelessly, through legislation and litigation. As the president of the Access4Bikes Foundation, a Marin-based advocacy group, Huffman has been leading the charge for mountain bike access in the birthplace of the sport. His dedication is beyond mountain biking though, and his cause is not simply access, but rather fighting for what you believe in, with dignity and endless passion—something visible in every aspect of Huffman’s life. -- Subscribe to Freehub Magazine! Added a new video Hard Days // Creating Trans-Cascadia 1/29/2019 8:32 AM

It’s impossible to not be completely worked after a day at Trans-Cascadia. And that’s not just the racers; volunteers, officials, timers, chefs, media—everyone puts in an equal effort. The final week is the culmination of years worth of work, too. Each race is proceeded by work weekends, months of scouting and many conversations with land managers and local community members. For the individuals behind Trans-Cascadia, putting on an epic, blind, trans-style backcountry stage race is the reward. Opening miles of singletrack and giving back to the Cascadian mountain bike community is the reason—and that’s a lot easier when everyone contributes. Learn more about the Trans-Cascadia race by visiting their website. A special thanks to Schwalbe Tires for making the video possible. --

Added a new video Session Series // Episode 4: The Free Radicals' Season Send-Off 1/3/2019 11:47 AM

As the calendar turned to October, typically a wet and soggy month, the forecast continued to show sun with just enough rain and cool temperatures to provide the best conditions of the year. To take advantage of this, we threw a party with bikes, bonfires and beers. Inviting 12 of our best friends was a no brainer and a great way to say thanks for a kick ass season! This year is one we will cherish forever and none of it would have been possible without the help and support of our friends. A huge shout out to Jon, Ashton, Benny and the whole crew from Smith, without you, we would have given up on this dream last year, gotten other jobs and lived the rest of our lives wondering ‘what if’. So, thank you. We also have enormous gratitude for all our local homies, in your absence, life in the RV would have been a damn sight harder, smellier and way less fun. -- Subscribe to Freehub Magazine! Everyone views the world differently. The chaotic cities, the surreal mountains, the kind people; each provide a beautiful and unique experience. On her journey to ride in the Himalaya, the unfamiliar environment is amplified with every pedal-stroke, taking her further into the unknown, closer to connection and toward the realization that perspective is everything. Bringing a business to fruition is often quite literally a dream come true, be it a locally owned bike shop or a hand-made hip pack. Added a new video Session Series // Episode 2: Summer Escape with the Free Radicals 8/30/2018 10:36 AM

Summer treated the Free Radicals to desert like temperatures and tan lines on par with the most leathery of roadies. Navigating Whistler this time of year can be near impossible when everyday is someone else's Friday. Luckily, after one too many brannigans, the boys were able to escape the madness and found themselves deeply immersed in the mountains.
