Thank you for this. Exactly what I wanted to know. Will be keeping my Dorado for now, but come the next service interval it is time to switch.

Yep, I like this add. Plays right up my alley

Nice! Wonder where that trail is. Great to see Brook ripping it!

Nice video. Makes it very clear.
I would say though, a cassette and derailleur is probably more like 800g->1kg and the weight of a single speed ring is roughly 40g. Much more weight difference than 500g as mentioned.
Plus, to note, the weight of the gearbox is added to the sprung mass so that actually increases for gearbox bikes and so this would also affect the ratio.
By my very rough calculations it is closer to a 2% difference in ratio from derailleur based vs gearbox.

From what I have read in studies so far over the years, flat pedals are either the same or more efficient (when mountain biking).
I think there is some misguided opinions on this Just like when high pressures in tyres was thought to be a good thing when mountain biking (because it worked in road biking). In comes Pro Core and then everyone else...
The reason low pressure tyres work so well in mountain biking is because it has exactly the conditions that road biking or a static bike do not have.
Need a test that is done in the woods on real trails.
Like your video. At least it shows that even in non real world conditions (for mountain biking) flat pedals are basically the same as clips.

Love it! How does the brake bit work?

The most "Rampage" run ever in my opinion.
Got my vote. Looks ever more sick on the helmet cam.

I think most bikes have to low a bottom bracket height for realistic trails that include rocks and roots.

Quick question: can you appreciate the difference with the Hydra hub compared to what you had before while using the Pinion?
I have Industry Nine Torch hubs and am thinking of getting Hydra to help with engagement. Also have a Pinion gearbox.

This is great!
Originally I thought of putting my Dorados on the Taniwha as well but ended up not doing it. This bike is making me start to think again...

I’ve been eyeballing the Ohlins gear for a while. Is the current stuff worth the change from a Cane Creek setup?

Agreed. If I got this bike the first thing I would do is swap out the shock. I think Specialized got it right with the Ohlins coil on the Kenevo.

Love the dogs self preservation
This bike is very high on my list of future possibilities.

You can get similar benefits from USD forks I think (or any fork that has “good” flex). The benefits described here are what I experienced coming from a stiff BOS fork to Dorados. Would be interesting to compare a stiff fork with this bar to a flexi fork with regular bars.

Good video. I’ve borrowed my dads ebike a few times and really enjoy it but I do think my regular bike is much better in carrying speed. After this video I’m suspecting some suspension setup changes could solve most of that.
Those trails look amazing!
