Why would shimano have people thinking that their brakes fail if it was in actuality just rider error?

For the people who think that his brakes were somehow rigged to fail, don't you think they would do something that wouldn't potentially kill him? Maybe a cut link in the chain? This is why his brakes are prototypes and not in production. Nothing fishy here, except a defect in design.
