I went to 500 from Ohilns spring calculator that stuck me at 457 lb spring. I think it's all on what you're trying to do. At the end of the day, it is only 140mm in the rear. For what its worth, the Ohlins TTX is better than the pushed 11.6 I had on my wreckoning (in retrospect, that bike and its DELTA link has fundamental issues). I'd say the Ohlins feels more like a planted and "race ready" than I I've felt in a shock before. If the goal is gobs of traction and to go fast, I'd say Ohlins TTX coil, hands down (it is amazingly composed). However, like any high HSC based stack, its gonna feel like a brick laying massive turds if you're not aggressive with the bike.

For what its worth, I recently stuck an Ohlins TTX with an absurdly high HSC tune on it (CS40) and have been messing around with it for about a month now. I find that, while a bit liberal with its travel, the crap ton of HSC means that it stays pretty up and supportive through a majority of things and really only bottoms out with any sort of harshness on square edge hits that are full weight on the rear. It also means I run pretty open LSC (which has its benefits). I'm 200ish on a 500 lb spring. I also run a pretty firm front of the bike and tend to ride front heavy. That being said, I think a nice air shock would lean better to a more back wheel friendly rider.

200(ish) on an Evil Wreckoning, been in Canada most recently. Was looking at 4 piston instead of 2. Was hoping someone could shed light on the difference between 4 smaller piston vs 2 larger piston.

Does anyone have suggestions for Brakes? I'm running Shimano XT with 203 rotors and I find the initial bite great, but the power after that to be a bit lacking when things get steep I get going fast. I was thinking Saints, but I don't necessarily want ... more »

Anyone know his rider weight/sag is. I'm rocking a 475 lb spring and I'm pretty sure he's like a third of my weight.

I'm having a really hard time following your argument and the points you're trying to make. Let me take a stab at summing them up: 1.) 29" bikes are unfair because they roll too well 2.) 29" bikes are unfair because they benefit tall people 3.) 29" bikes ... more »

*Cough* Greg placed 4th overall last year *Cough* Just see for yourself
As far as actual improvements. Yeah, getting a 29" wheel as strong as a 26" wheel has required a massive push in technological advancement in wheels. From spokes, to rims, to hubs, to boost. ... more »

So with your logic , we should still be on bikes from the 90's. Why improve? Why go faster at all? Why should a racer get better brakes to have more control so he can go faster? Everyone else will buy them. Why should a racer get a lighter bike? Everyone else will get one. Why should a racer get better...more

Faster is always better in race, that is why they call it a race. Whether it's faster thru a tech section/track like Val di Sol or faster on a more bike park type track, faster wins races...zero exceptions. Every single fan boy of Sam Hill for example (I am one as well) wants him to be faster that all the...more

No need, its going to be 26" But seriously, no one in their right mind would say that 29" are going to sweep everything this season. It's not going to be the Syndicate 1-2-3 tour all year (probably). The gains are probably going to be 2-3 seconds per ... more »

I'm still at a lost at why you think 29" means anything regarding to road bike culture... As for 29" in downhill. It's already happening at the local race level, just look at people like Luke Stroble crushing the PNW DH scene on a Wreckoning. As a proud ... more »
