I forgot to mention. If it's loose it's bad. AND if binds it's bad.

I'm no Devince expert or anything, but the Sound is most likely the seat post cable. It's amazing how many companies don't really care about a bit of that on you're end. If your frame doesn't have those built in guide tubes, then you're stuck with jamming ... more »

When building wheels I've always payed attention to drive and breaking forces, putting the outside spokes in charge for breaking in the front and drive in the rear. But this is quite another level. Which reminds me to text that Cal Poly kid for my copy of The Art of the Wheel. Adam I think? Are you out there?

Awesome to listen to this! As someone who quit high school to learn how to weld, is obsessed with bikes, and has multiple jobs solely based around building things with my hands, Frank has not been a small influence to me, haha. Cool to hear his whole story in one place.

That was great to be able to finally "Meet." the legend through the wonders of modern technology. I've heard legend of Frank since I first bought one of those stems. You seem to be just as I'd imagined you. A bit shy, very thoughtful, dedicated and a proper tool collector. Just like every other frame builder that I've worked with. Including me of course.

It's a lot safer to day dream about MTB from the couch than about the couch from the MTB.

I've actually thought recently of building the frame into more of a trail bike. A LONG dropper could get me to good pedaling geometry with the 76' SA, but I wouldn't trust any long travel fork to work with it's 1 1/8" head tube.
