Reply to E-Bikes Move Forward with USA National Park and BLM Trail Access - Thoughts? 12/11/2019 8:37 AM

Wow, this is so sad. The US Military is deployed in more than 150 countries, our oceans are dying (and rising!), our air is polluted and thousands of other big issues that will affect nearly everyone on this plant yet we are fighting over how people ... more »

Reply to E-Bikes Move Forward with USA National Park and BLM Trail Access - Thoughts? 9/11/2019 2:00 PM

How to increase the funding for the land agencies seems to be a big concern. It is interesting that huge industries make money off of our parklands yet I am not sure how much they fund them. E-bikes are and will be nothing compared to the impact of side ... more »

That is the rudest comment I have ever seen here. You might want to think about about how tough this has be even for warrior like Brook.

Thank you! I don't have a TV but I do have a VPN! Don't think I would have thought of that.

Impressive! Doubt his competitors did a couple 5 minute intervals down a gnarly World Cup downhill track yesterday! Misser gets the Tomac award (heck, don't know if Tomac ever won a downhill and then an XC race the next day).

Holy cow, he was on a single crown! At Sainte Anne, insane.

It's his brother I believe.

Reply to How Much Reach is Too Much Reach? 8/1/2019 3:40 PM

What? Reach is important because it can't be adjusted and it tells you how big the bike is when standing and descending (which always seems to 50% or more of the mileage that I do). Effective top tube can be greatly adjusted by sliding your seat forward ... more »

Reply to Discussion: Fork Damping vs Spring Rate 7/24/2019 8:23 AM

So much of this depends on the fork. I'm used to DVO forks which have the OTT (off the top) adjustment for that first bit of travel. This allows you to run a high spring rate with out sacrificing low speed compliance which greatly improves cornering ... more »

Funny story regarding Greg Minnaar and frame reach. My first time working with Greg as my guest coach in a downhill camp he was still on Honda. The next year he was on Santa Cruz and riding a large V-10 (which had the reach measurement of most manufacturers

Loved the Comp 32! Many of us ran it front and rear to protect our rims on rough tracks like the Mount Snow NORBA track. Michelin had the best rubber compounds in the 90s. The Maxxis High Roller is a copy of the comp 16 (or 22?).

Had one on 98 Mongoose IBOC Pro. They worked alright, sometimes my seat would be slightly crooked.

No love for Neko Mulally? "It was really only a matter of time until the Director of Good Times would end up with YT. Brett Tippie is now part of the YT Family and takes his place alongside Aaron Gwin, Cam Zink, and Andreu Lacondeguy."

I've been thinking about this since watching Ratboy's interview and I understand where they are coming from (on a lower level!). I believe the biggest stoke of mountain biking is when it gets so intense you get totally thrown into the moment. No thinking, ... more »

Maxipedia, you rock! Loved reading your last two posts. I could feel your passion. I remember feeling that way waiting for my bmx and skateboard magazines when I was in my teens. As I've gotten older I don't enjoy reading about the latest/greatest bike ... more »

Years ago Jurgen Beneke and I were discussing tracks that would look good on TV (to the masses) and he said, "there are three things the general public likes, high speed, big air and crashes. If we want to get downhill racing on TV we need a 60mph section, ... more »

Cool thread. When I was 44 I hit this 48 foot gap at the 2010 US National Championships in Sol Vista. Miss that rad park and it's original trail crew.

You would think at 6'3" I would prefer fat grips for my xl gloved hands but I rock the ODI Ruffian or Troy Lee grips not the fatter ones.

God forbid we actually expose mountain biking to more people! That might hurt sales of road racing licenses. UCI is the lamest bunch of fun killers I have ever seen (next to maybe US cycling?!)
