I don't understand. If the adiabatic process occurs at high shaft speeds, why would that affect a low shaft speed moment like pushing into a jump face? By poppy I assume we're talking about jumping. Similarly, small bump impacts are high shaft speed moments, so by this same process...more

100% Agree! Only racers with a mechanic rebuilding their shocks after every race should prefer air. Plus air shocks fade, even the large air can ones on a long run. I have coil on my Nomad v4 and the kinematics are perfect for coil. I'm never running air again. The tiny little bit of...more

I don't think the statement 'europeans have embraced them' is true. It's just as divided and contentious issue, despite sales being strong.
My personal opinion is they are simply a motorbike ripping round my trails. I have a deep anger when one passes me.
I know this is totally irrational and...more

Loss of trail access is the big ticket. The various trail user groups throughout the US are very heavily anti-MTB. Mountain biker advocacy groups across the US have fought a long hard battle to get what little access we have. As of late, the fight has been going very well, mainly due to the...more

All that talk and no mention of durability and maintenance? Sure, brand new air shocks feel great out of the box, but beat on them for 6 months and then run your comparisons. Air shocks always have this slow degradation of their performance, sorry rockshox, there's nothing your new...more

I had the 2016 Slash 9.9 27.5. The bike was expensive and a pile of S&^t. The bike was so long it was super difficult in corning and a pain in the ass to climb. The rear triangle cracked twice. I ditched the bike with in 6 months. I don't suggest anyone waisting their money on a Trek....more

Thanks B

I should have been more clear as to what Trek was claiming, as there likely are some benefits.

I am subjectively saying "the juice isn't worth the squeeze" on this one.

Too many companies have successfully dipped the downtube without making boat anchors of a bike at similar...more

I completely see where you are coming from here. I really meant, "as a racer, I'd like to see a bar mounted lockout or compression adjust". It does look ugly, complicates the bar setup and really not that useful for your everyday rider. But for a racer, it can shave seconds off a time,...more

"Overall I think a bike that is designed for EWS racing should be designed to eat bumps as well as it can, even at the expense of pedaling. "

I am not exactly sure where I heard or read the following quote, but after riding the bikes in question I am inclined to agree. "If you want to win...more

It really is an impressive bike. I applaud just how purpose specific it really is. Few thoughts pertaining to your comments.

1) I should have commented on the pressfit BB. Has absolutely no place here. There is ample room for a traditional threaded BB.

2) The design is active, this is a...more

I know a couple guys that have the '17 model and are quite fond of them. My big knock against them are the same as pointed out in this review. Proprietary stuff with minimal benefit, pressfit BB (meh) and more so an overly active rear suspension when climbing necessitating reaching for...more

Thanks for the kind words!

One thing I didn't mention - the GRIP damper is excellent. I fully planned on upgrading to the FIT4 damper, but after my time on the GRIP damper, I'm not sure I'd realize any appreciation in performance. IFP vs Bladder.

But yeah, if Trek would give up the knock...more
