Angel Fire Bike Park Opening Day: Trail Update and Fire 5 Race Details

Angel Fire Park Report: Oh, so fresh and soft!

Awarded #1 Bike Park in the Southwest by MTB Parks, Angel Fire Bike Park (www.angelfirebikepark.com) the largest Bike Park in the Rockies, will open with over 60 miles of trails on May 19, 2017 for the summer season. Bike Park Manager, Hogan Koesis, lets us know what we can expect in the early season.

Something about this time of year always gets us super stoked at the bike park. The sweet smells of the forest coming back to life from the sheltered winter. The dirt all puffed out from the snow melt, ready for tires from riders to smash it back in place. This time of year, is the calm before the storm of riders that descend into Angel Fire Bike Park for opening day.

This year we saw a record windy season. Several hundred blow down trees were littered throughout the bike park. A bridge was destroyed on Supreme DH and a myriad of snags were all over the trails. It was also a super snowy April and has limited the amount of early season access we’ve had at the end of April. Devinci’s Code was corridored and benched in October last year. As soon as the snow melts we have plans to get on it and open as early as we can. Going forward, it looks like we’ll have a super sunny week with warm temperatures in the forecast. It should make for some super amazing conditions opening weekend. I can tell you that we will be at least 70% open and with 60+miles of downhill flowiness, the available trails won’t disappoint.

Kyle Straight

For activities this weekend, look forward to Commencal demo bikes at the base of the lift. They will have their latest and greatest bikes for public consumption. Also, Kyle Straight will be here and if you can keep up with him, he will be shredding the park most of the weekend!

Also don’t forget, we will be kicking off the first race on Saturday in the Fire 5 race series. This year you only have to race 3 out of 5 to qualify for the overall. With 10,000 cash and another 10,000 in prizes littered throughout the series and the fact you don’t have to have a racing license to participate, why wouldn’t you test your skills and compete for glory!

Look forward to seeing you this season!
