The weather went from the subject of much speculation to an actual thing, as the heaven's opened up on Maribor halfway through qualifying day. With the course conditions changing quickly, it all turned into a bit of a lottery out there which resulted in quite the shake-up of the established order, with some triple-digit plates making late bids for top-20 finishes and punching their tickets not just for finals but also for the live show tomorrow. Mark Wallace ultimately made the most sense of the whole thing, landing himself in the top qualifier spot with Aaron Gwin in hot pursuit just behind him. Before the downpours really got going, Tracey Hannah stomped her authority on the elite women's event, while Thibaut Daprela and Vali Holl picked up right where they left off last year with dominant performances here at the season opener.
