Trail Etiquette...the guy in front knew nothing about it... It's one thing to have a friend in your back pocket trying to pass, it's a whole other thing when you are holding up someone. Guy in front needs to ride double track if he's going to roll like child....and then act like one...and Chequamie...ever had to defend yourself against a bear? i'm sure they think we are dicks...being in THEIR house...
4/25/2012 7:57 PM
sure, the guy behind could have been more polite, but he made a fairly reasonable request. i know i'll always pull over to let faster riders by. that old guy crossed a line when he started to attack the other rider. being a bit rude isn't a crime; assault is.

they are both dicks but the guy running his mouth got what was coming! dont talk shit if you cant defend yourself!

Big Up to the Rockshox Oomie - Their was allot of dual track in the beginning to attempt a move or practice overtaking manoeuvres - Enough of this roadie cockiness on the trial go piss someone of on your way home-that's what road rage is for, No one likes a smart ass on the trial! My 10cents worth, Happy trials and if your going to be smart ass practice some evasive manoeuvres first or at least some blocking.

It's the earthquakes, they've got everybody on edge...
4/25/2012 12:55 AM
2 things: First, I don't think the guy in back was out of line at all. The hard tail guy was being a dick. Plain and simple. Second, At 3:30 the guy in back appears to pass. How the hell did the hard tail guy get in front again?

The story goes:
"IDENTITY SOUGHT: This mountainbiker is alleged to have assaulted another
mountainbiker on a Port Hills track in Christchurch yesterday.
A Christchurch mountainbiker says a fellow cyclist tried to strangle
him with his helmet after the pair got into an argument on a Port Hills
Mountainbiker Jordan, who did not want his surname used, caught the alleged incident on film with a helmet video camera.
He said it stemmed from him asking the other cyclist, a middle-aged
man in yellow Rock Shox Racing top, to give him room to pass on the
Flying Nun track yesterday.
"He kept saying yes but wouldn't give me a space. He was holding me
up pretty badly. Trail etiquette says you pull over to let faster riders
He claimed he was polite at first, but "got less polite" as the other cyclist refused to stop.
However, he "certainly wasn't asking to be attacked".
He told the man he was rude for not allowing him to pass, and "that set him off".
"He tried to strangle me with my helmet while he was trying to steal
my camera, and when I started yelling for help he put his hand over my
nose and mouth."
The cyclist said he feared the man would not stop the attack, so he
"did the only thing I could do without letting go of the camera, bit
down on his finger".
After "a bit more struggling", he said he managed to get away and yell for help before leaving the scene.
"I rolled down the road and spoke to a couple other guys at the car
park, they said I should ring the police, so I got my phone out and
that's when the guy showed up again, so that's when I took a photo."
He said the man tried again to take his camera and delete the video.
Jordan said he had spoken to police about the incident, and that he
posted the video online to try to identify the man involved."
Good to see they caught the guy: http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/crime/6756739/Man-arrested-over-mountain-biker-assault
Seriously, you cant just assault people because theyre being rude. Trying to steal the camera was such a bitch move, a shame the other guy apparently didnt know how to fight.

and the kid couldnt fight back? i woulda fucked that old man up!
4/24/2012 9:20 PM
That old man deserved to get beat, I can't stand people like that. The guy behind had the patience of a saint for reacting like he did. But then it looks like he got worked over by that kook. Probably not one of his favorite rides
4/24/2012 6:08 PM
Why does Vitalmtb think this is funny? The old guy was being a complete douchebag. Is everyone at vital also so inconsiderate and without common sense? That is far from heckling someone.
4/24/2012 3:37 PM
Not that he was wrong, but what did the heckler expect to happen?? Ya better learn to fight before you go around talking like that.
4/24/2012 3:17 PM
I agree, he should have let him pass as soon as he knew the faster guy was there. It's not a race, just pull over slightly or stop and let him go. If I'm old and in the way, it makes me want to try and keep up. But blocking him and throwing punches? Damn, that is straight up assault. I think the kid with the GoPro was straddling his bike, so the old guy got the jump, knocked him down and douche-bagged him.
4/24/2012 2:54 PM
My theory is that the old guy is just trying to help the kid turn off his gopro. I never know if mine is recording/on/taking pictures.
4/24/2012 2:47 PM
If you hear a rider behind you chances are he is faster than you so you should let him go ahead. He asks politely if he can pass so you let him. He makes some noise in case you didn't hear him, you let him pass. There is no scenario where you can justify ignoring somebody behind you and behave like an ill tempered twat.

Couple of points... judging from the armored berms and several apparent jumps, this looks to be a downhill trail. Always yield to the faster rider, and don't stop in the trail tread. Younger guy: yeah, should have just pulled over and taken a short breather to let the other guy move on down the trail... following someone who obviously isn't going to move over isn't fun for anyone. Older guy: you committed assault, plain and simple. Hope you pay a huge fine ..and you're a total douche. just saying, you should probably watch out next time you're at this trail network... downhillers are mostly bros that stick together.... I wouldn't be surprised if in the future you just get run-the-f*ck-over by a train of guys on 40lb DH rigs.
4/24/2012 1:13 PM
...the point is... what the camera guy did was rude and inappropiate, but the old guy started a "criminal" offense... at least when you consider german law... which could mean 500-2000$ fine... by the way...the "young gun" deserved it...i thnik
