    He saw the gates, he was going around them to beat the train. If you look, there is a cyclist, in a bike lane on the other side of the track. From the other cyclist, you can tell that this video's unlikely hero was way outside the bike lane, in an attempt to go around the gate.

    He suffers from what I call, "bikes are allowed onto the road, therefore they mys be just as capable as cars, therefore, I can act the same way that I do when I drive a car." syndrome. It afflicts many road going cyclists all over the world. It results in run lights and dead bikers. Please, help stop the madness, and give me ridiculous amounts of money, so i can do research into medicine to fight the syndrome. I will need to buy a new $10,000 road bike every week for this research. Thank you.

    The gates being down should have been an indicator to the rider. They obviously need more notice than that.
