Shocks, Pegs, AND a Motor?! What Will Audi Think Up Next? 17

Watch as Julien Dupont rips around on the Audi concept e-bike. Would you rally it?

Check out some of the specs on this thing. They're actually quite impressive:

- 26-inch wheels made from CFRP that weigh only 600 grams each
- Carbon-fiber frame weighs only 1,600 grams (3.53 lb)
- Electric motor is a permanent magnet synchronous machine located and drives the bottom bracket shaft directly
- Maximum torque at the rear wheel is in the region of 250 Nm (184.39 lb-ft)
- Peak output from the electric motor is 2.3 kW
- Rider's can choose between five programs: Pure, Pedelec, eGrip, Wheelie, and Power Wheelie modes
- Top speed of 50MPH with a distance of 31-44 miles

Of all the designs out there, this is certainly the best looking IMO.

Oh no! Children are going to see this dude not securing his helmet. I hope those same kids don't ever watch TV or see any movies.

And they couldn't get this tool to strap his helmet for the kids? Bugs me big time him not strapping his helmet.

184 lb ft? That can't be right, a lot of cars don't have that much torque.

That does seem crazy high, but electric motors can produce gaudy amounts of torque. Max torque comes on at 1 rpm unlike combustible motors too. Mercedes made an E car producing 738 lb ft or torque! Looks like the Germans are working pretty hard on E motors.

I get how electric motors work, but a GSXR 1000 only makes about 80 lb ft. Tesla Roadster makes 300 lb ft, which is why 184 sounds too high. That thing would be the fastest accelerating thing ever, or rip itself apart.

I think you're forgetting about the gearing. That motor might not be pumping out 184 ft-lb but with proper gearing it can make that at the rear wheel. Just at a lower RPM.
