Colorado MTB Road Trip - July 2012 1
I had long heard stories about flowing singletrack and incredible scenery high in the mountains of Southwestern Colorado, so I hit the road for a week to explore. My riding plans in Telluride, which included the infamously difficult Wasatch Trail, were dashed by rainy weather, so I was limited to a couple rides on Prospect Trail. Although I didn't get to climb to nearly 13,000' as planned, the scenery I found was impressive nonetheless. My good friend Jordan met up with me in Crested Butte, where we rode the 401 trail, Doctor's Park, and then rented bikes at Evolution Bike Park for our first experience with downhilling. I returned from this trip with a whole new perspective on high altitude mountain biking and how difficult yet rewarding it can be. There are still so many destinations in Colorado to explore, and I can't wait to go back.
