Been to Bromont a bunch of times, but none of this looks familiar. Is this on the opposite side of the hill at the current world cup trail?

@Howse, I agree there are a few tracks on the circuit that don't really cut it. RSA, Leogang, 2012 (before rain), etc. But then you still have Ste Anne, Norway, Val di Sole, and others. What there doesn't seem to be are the super-tech slow sections that were in that old Bromont track. And overall the speeds have gone up even on sections of tracks that have been used for years. If choosing between Leogang this year and that original Bromont track I'd go with Leogang. A couple of silly steep rock sections in the rain on 6-7" travel bikes makes it look way worse than it is today. Like Stik said, it was actually a pretty stupid track in some places.

How is it bike technologies have gotten better while the tracks are getting smoother..... Look at world champs 2012 vs. this......

In Earthed 4, Nico Vink ride the "1837" in Mt Sainte-Anne and the bottom part of the old WC track.
Very Steep, rocky singletrack.

Worst track of all time, for a race course, it was like a trials section. And seeing the first rider cam, Scott Ybarra was sad, the lil fella passed away a few years ago. RIP Scotty

That trails was pretty nuts for '99, but much of it still exists as part of the trail network at Bromont. It's seen changes to combat erosion and the the passage of time but for the most part much of it is similarly technical to the original track. However, having ridden there since about 2000 I'll say the changes in bike technology have helped tremendously with making it feel far less sketchy and way faster. Some of the 'world cup' bikes in that video could be considered less capable than a modern 6" travel enduro bike. I'm not sure if the majority of tracks are necessarily any less tech (some definitely are though), but the speeds have gone way up. That speed adds a whole new dimension that wasn't there as much 13-15 years ago.

@ Scott_Townes, that course and many others in the 90"s where pretty insane, and they had very little technology. Flow does rule but I am nostalgic for the rough and insanely technical sections. I was worked support for a Granny Gear Production DH that had a short DH trials section in it. It got interesting to watch.

If I'm not mistaken, Anne-Caro is on the top of the podium? And anyone else think that WC tracks way back were way gnarlier than today's? (figure the amount of field negates the lack of technology they had then, haha)
