Giro's Chamber and Jacket Shoes - Sea Otter Classic 2013 7

New for 2013, Giro is introducing a line of shoes developed with Sir Aaron Gwin. The Chamber and Jacket feature Vibram outsoles, EVA midsole and Poron XRD cushioning in the heels. They're also pretty dang good looking if we do say so ourselves. Get your fill of tech talk from Simon, then cruise over to for more info.

Stop Gwin hating. Any company would be thrilled to be associated with Gwin even if it is for flat pedals which he rides almost never. And Gwin is only going to be competing in DH for another 3-4 years tops. He has said he won't be doing it forever (read: into his 30's), so he has to make some money now while he is on top.

Regarding his sponsors. Just because he wore Vans doesn't mean he was sponsored by them; he also wore 5.10s last year, but wasn't sponsored by them either. He hasn't rode Shimano pedals since Yeti because he probably found a better pedal. Giro is also a subsidiary Easton-Bell sports which obviously Bell helmets is also owned by. Maybe this could explain why he went to Giro instead of any other shoe brand--his loyalty to Easton-Bell. Some things you can't keep when you change teams too as we have seen from Sam Hill no more DT Swiss. Gwin has only said that he will be loyal to Fox Shox and has done so thus far. Bottom line he is going to ride what he wants to ride on because he is trying to win.

The one BS thing the Giro marketer says is that they've been working with Gwin for a "couple different years" on those shoes. Yeah right. More like they copied 5.10s and slapped Gwin's name on it in 2013 after getting a bit of input in January.

White soles for a mountain bike shoe? Come on. Otherwise, great looking shoe.

I'm so tired of Aaron Gwin. Sponsored by crank brother, ht pedals, and runs shimano pedals? He's run shimano and vans shoes, now helping develop giro shoes? Not to mention running a fox/sram set up this year after peacing out on shimano. penning a deal with troy lee after having bell create his own signature edition helmet? I realize it is all about the $$$ but I have to shake my head at his lack of professionalism when it comes to being brand faithful.

Why would you ever make a downhill shoe in white!? They must not realize that we ride our bikes in dirt and mud....
