Morpheus Cycles Shows Off New Carbon Downhill Frame
Several months ago we were sent plans for this frame. Today Morpheus Cycles released photos of the real deal.
What makes this frame fairly unique is how the adjustments are made - by screwing the shock mounts in or out, the travel, bb height, and head angle can be changed in very small increments.
Features:
- Full carbon fiber with kevlar layer
- Internal cable routing with aluminum guide tubes
- Infinite travel adjustment from 180mm to 225 mm
- Infinite bottom bracket adjustment from 13.6 to 14.6 inches
- Infinite chainstay adjustments from 16.5 to 18.0 inches (uses similar stays to their slope bikes)
- Zero chain growth thanks to the concentric bb pivot (single speed anyone?)
- Infinite head angle adjustments from 62.8 to 65.5 degrees
- 27.5 inch standover height
- Full build shown here is 32.3 pounds
Morpheus is expecting a release date of December this year. Retail price is estimated to be $3300 with a shock.
You'll likely see Mitch Chubey and Anthony Messere piloting it soon. Side note: Messere riding downhill?! Could be sweet...

People say the dj is ugly ( vimana? ) but mitch and anthony LOVE the ride it offers. Not always about looks. Also, its what were used to, this is a bit different but so what! I think its gonna be a killer bike on the mountain!

this bike is so almost. its got some great lines, and some turrrible lines. its got some great features, and some challenges that never got sorted. i always liked the idea of a single speed 8 inch bike for just having fun on and shuttling and jibbing. the carbon looks awesome, the rear shock mount looks sketchy. the curves are gorgeous. the bolts, not so much. sooooo close. but not quite.

Looks like a carbon DH concept bike from 1994 with new components on it.

Concentric BB pivot for such a long travel bike is a deal breaker, for real downhill anyway. For smooth bike park trails and slopestyle stuff it could alright though. But that's a tiny niche, especially with that price. It's so adjustable the bike seems confused. They could have probably saved a ton of weight and money if they did away with the adjustable chainstay. I don't think enough people adjust their chainstays enough to justify it.

If you saw the plans several months ago, why didn't you change them?
Brake "Jack", kooky concentric suspension. Scriz might be onto it, Rampage sled, slope style maybe.
I think the carbon and frame look great, just shame about the design.

This is an interesting design with the concentric BB Pivot, micro-adj travel, and adj chainstays allowing for multiple wheel sizes. I think it could become a great park bike. The single speed aspect is practical for lift served riding. Nice.

Wow not a fan of the looks, but I'm pretty sure some re-engineering is going to be needed to use that chain guide.

Having owned a Rotec, I can say that I would not want that bike without a floating brake mount. Also, the shock hardware looks a bit too "hardware store" for my tastes.
