Crank Brothers 2012
Crank Brothers debuted a lot of new products at Sea Otter this year. Refined wheels, pedals and bars, but also new products like gear bags and hydration packs. We've selected the products that might interest you all-mountain and downhill types, so get your napkins ready, you'll be drooling in no time.
2012 Crank Brothers Pedal Features Overview
- All pedals are fully rebuildable
• 3 and 11 level pedals use needle bearings instead of bushings
• New construction eliminates leak paths and greatly improves sealing
• Consistency in parts across pedal models: all spindles fit all pedals
• Clarity in naming across pedal families: level 1 is brand entry, level 11 is elite
• 50% increase in spindle strength
• Slimmer two-piece platform design for the mallet and 5050 reduces weight
5050 Series Pedals
The photos had been leaked and pro riders have been using them in testing. Finally the new 5050 flat pedal is here. Aside from aesthetics, the use of both polycarbonate and aluminum in the body construction is what stands out with these new pedals. Weight comes down and durability goes up according to Crank Brothers with the both models hovering right around the 430 gram mark, using 10mm pins. The 5050 3 ($100) uses a needle inner bearing while the 5050 2 ($80) use an inner bushing and both models have a 5-year warranty.

2012 Mallet Series Pedals
Clip-using downhillers should take an interest in the 2012 Crank Brothers Mallet which uses a combination of aluminum and polycarbonate for the body construction, just like the new 5050's. The high-level Mallet 3 ($120, 435grams) uses needle bearings and investment cast steel on the 'wings' of the pedal, while the Mallet 1 ($60) and 2 ($90) models use bushings and stamped steel. The Mallet 1 has a 2 year warranty while the 2 and 3 have a 6-year warranty. A variety of colors are available.

I have CB pedals and can't fault them. Also with a 6 year warranty they are clearly confident in their product......

I have cased the 50 footer and rode out fine at my local jumps with the Stock Specialized Wheels from my Demo 8 and nothing happened...
So I don't know

I have ridden my CB's stuff for years now, Only problem was a pair of Candies a couple of years ago, sent them in a new pair arrived and have been riding them ever since. I also have ridden my CB's wheels and Pedals on my DH bike everywhere from Co. to Cali. and everywhere in between. No problems... I am a 230lbs very aggressive DH rider and All Mtn. I have cased large Gappers with no problems and hit everything in the trail and still I have a Bomb proof set of wheels and Pedals?? Weird, I have seen DT Swiss,Mavic, I9,ect.. with problems I've seen every pair of wheels just mentioned "BLOW UP" I certainly did not receive the customer support with other "Big Company's" Like I get from CB's... At least they care After the sale!!!! I think the $$ spent in R& D and feed back from Riders that actually have ridden the product for years, and not just go off of what they hear their "Friends" say , Will pay off with Great Product with Super Customer Support...

Scharney127:
That is a load of RUBBISH! If you were to go off a 50 foot jump/drop/whatever, and case it, then just about every wheelset out there would have some pretty serious damage.
I have said it before, and will say it again, people find it really easy to say that CB are s*it, just because they hear a load of people online talking crap and exaggerating the entire situation. Unlike CB, if a shimano pedal broke, people would accept that. Simply because CB may not have as good a QC department doesnt mean their products are bad. They are far from it!
For what you know, shimano may discard 9 out of 10 pedals they make, you (the consumer) just don't see that...

stoked to see some new bars. There aren't enough component companies that make bars...

My original response to Carbonsoul was this, "so why don't you go case a 50 footer with them sage wheels and see how well they hold up to that, because if it ain't gonna hold up to big gaps, then it ain't shit to me..." but since I don't wanna sound like a dick, I guess what I really want to say is that Crankbrothers just isn't the right Challenger Brand for the few of us huckers left, but to each his own....
Also I prefer Burn-n-Crash-n-Burn Again...

Seems to easy to talk trash online, doubt any of the nay-sayers have tried the new stuff. I have no idea about their stuff before 2010 because i took a break from riding but now i am competing at expert level DH. And i can say the 2010 stuff rocks. The 2011 stuff should be even better. What the haters dont seem to understand is what a "Challenger Brand" is. CB is working on re-designing and challenging the way the Goliaths of the industry do things. And I just read they re-invested in their R&D last year ($2mil) so this years stuff is dialed. Yes...using the sage wheels to DH...nothing blowing up. Sometimes guys who crash n burn wanna blame their gear rather than their skill.

The new Mallets look sweet. I have always been really happy with the mallets on my DH bike. The candy pedals however, are a different story. That bag also looks pretty cool.

I dont see why they're talking about weight savings. The mallet pedal is 5 grams lighter..... hardly a difference

Wow. So instead of just having my pedals break, I can now have my handlebars fail too!? Awesome!

Thumbs up for CB's warranty. Everytime I send something to them it comes back fresh.

I am super stoked on the New CB line up for 2012!!! They may have has issues in the past, but that is why they do "Research and Development" to correct problems they may have had. The new stuff has been Redesigned and Totally improved. As far as any problems in the past the company has great customer service and the ability to stand behind the product. So instead of just simply going off of what you heard your "Friend" say about a product, Go get yourself some new CB stuff and see for yourself...Hooray for R&D!!!!

Brave move to switch to joining plastic and metal, considering what great luck they had making metal and metal work...
