Dropping In - rhiannon - Mountain Biking Pictures - Vital MTB

the reason why this photograph means so much to me is that it symbolizes my fight to ride again. three years ago, i had a really bad bike crash. i actually had a doctor refuse to perform surgery on my shoulder, because he said that as i am a lady, i wouldn't want to have ginormous scar on my shoulder. after getting a second opinion, it turned out that my collarbone was in fact stuck behind my shoulder, parts of the bone were shattered, and i had a stage 5 ac separation. because that first doctor decided i shouldn't have a scar, my collarbone disintegrated and will never connect to my shoulder again. i spent 3 years off the bike and just started riding again because of my injuries. i can't put into words how amazing it is to be back.

Dam, good for you! Efing docs love them because they saved my life! and cant stand them... Because I hurt my ankle way back and the hospital said it was not broken, and probably just a bad sprain. mri weeks later showed that my heal and tallus bone were broken! now I need surgery this winter. Keep on ripping, and vital give her some tevas!!!

I experienced something similar, the first doctor told me I had sprained my knee. The second told me I had torn my ACL, and guessed my MCL, PCL as well within 10 seconds of moving my knee around. I never knew to shop around for doctors, but you really have to. That being said, its so awesome to see you back on two wheels and doing what you love after 3 years. It's amazing how something as simple as riding a bike can bring back so much joy. Glad to hear your back at it. Shred on!

i am so sorry you had to go through the same experience!! it's rather depressing that one can no longer depend on doctors (who should be experts in their field). i actually had a compression fracture in my back from the same crash, but it was found my allergy doctor by mistake. i know right?! being on my bike is like being home again! thank you so much for the support, it means so much to me!!

I would think that with such a bad crash she would be wearing armor and more pads. That being said, I know how it feels to break a collar bone and that sucks and that doctor is an a$$ for not operating.

haha don't worry, if this trail had required more pads/armor i would definitely have been wearing more. thanks for the support!

I know your reply is a lame joke, but it irked me some, because the reality is, doctors from the so-called 3rd world and stone-age, kick 1st world docs in the face ever single time: all the fancy electronics in the world is no substitute for in-field experience will manner of nasty. Simply put: she woulda gotten way better diagnoses from Dr Afghanistan.

    But rock-on lady
