Kevin crushed his downhill run with a time of 2:04.1 aboard his KHS 650b bike. Congrats! Here's the official press release about the race from Shimano:Over 300 Downhillers take the hills of Fontana!
IRVINE, Calif. (February 9, 2013) – For the second event in a row the skies opened up just prior to the event leaving the downhill course full of traction. Over 300 downhillers showed up to take on the albeit short, but challenging Shimano Winter Series downhill course.
Long been considered the off season training ground for the pros the Southridge USA Shimano Winter Series in Fontana continues to draw strong fields of pro downhillers. The hotly contested Pro mens class saw one streak broken, but another one lengthened. Taking his first win after numerous top 3 finishes KHS’ Kevin Aiello broke teamates’ Logan Bingelli’s 2 race win streak while at the same time kept the Shimano equipped Team KHS win streak going strong. Logan still finished second and maintains the overall points lead.
World Cup pro Aaron Gwin was in attendance the day before the race to have some fun on the DH course and work with the ODI/Specialized JR riders who were getting adjusted to their new ride. The JR field has become incredibly competitive with the top 6 guys separated by less than 2 seconds! The top 4 times would have been good enough to place top ten in the Pro Mens class!
The next race is February 24th.
