Rampage Pro Bike Check: Kyle Strait's GT Fury

View as: Slideshow | One Page
Kyle Strait's aluminum GT Fury Team, one of only a few 27.5" bikes to be seen at Rampage. Big, long, and slack, this thing does not need to be babied around, and neither does Kyle! Watch out for some Fury-ous airtime when Rampage finals kick off in just a few short hours from now.
Truvativ's Boobar handlebars and 50mm direct mount stem give Kyle something to hold onto when things get rowdy...
...and speaking of rowdy, Kyle runs 2 grips, one over the other. It's not only Kyle's balls that are oversized! Avid Code brakes on stopper duty.
A couple of small spacers and the drop crowns on the fork let Kyle dial in the handlebar height he prefers.
Kenda's Nexcavator Pro tires make sure Kyle can point his bike at the next death-defying stunt with all the precision the task requires. Big knobs for big moves!
Novatec Demon wheels are ready for the punishment of the biggest lines at Rampage under one of the biggest and baddest dudes out there!
Flight of Fury. There are 3 or 4 Bottomless Tokens in the BoXXer World Cup to help provide the spring rate ramp up required for the kind of airtime this rig will see in the finals.
SRAM X01 DH drivetrain with a Truvativ (MRP) chainguide. Kyle doesn't run the lower roller on the chainguide, there is no real need for it with a SRAM X-Sync chainring and a DH group.
Kyle runs the 7-speed version of the X01 DH cassette.
SRAM X0 DH carbon cranks.
The shock is a RockShox Vivid Coil, medium tune on both compression and rebound.
650 lbs of titanium is what it takes to combat gravity when Strait comes in for landing. We heard they might have dropped it to 600 since this shot was taken...either way, it's affectionately referred to as the "fatty spring".
SDG's TiFly saddle on a Truvativ Holzfeller seatpost give Kyle somewhere to sit while waiting to hear what his score was.
Kyle runs the MN06 flat pedals from HT - he prefers the slightly thicker platform with a concave shape. He even removes the middle pins to really let the foot sink into the pedal, and to make small adjustments possible for tricks or just between hits.
A Charger for a charger! Go Lyle!
