One of the winningest World Cup mechanics, Jacy Shumilak, has wrenched for the likes of Sam Hill, Sabrina Jonnier, Brendan Fairclough and Troy Brosnan. He's been with Hill through the thick of it though, and they're about as tight as you can get. He lets us look at his custom travel tool kit for World Cup wrenching.
Jacy Shumilak, with his digital pump.
CDI torque wrench for most of your fork and pivot needs.
Digital calipers make things fun. Torx wrenches are getting more popular by the week, especially if you work on SRAM, so Jacy has a special, easy-to-spin, rubber-butterfly-handled one he uses most of the time (top right with the red oval handle).
265g Titanium hammer by Abbey Tools. Yes it's absurd, and yes it's individually numbered and special edition. Weight is everything when traveling. #pro
The elegant Crombie cassette tool. The cassette tool slips into the handle of the chainwhip and takes up basically no space. It's extremely handy to have around when you're swapping wheels every few runs.
The Airshop tubeless inflation system inflates with a standard bike pump and then dumps the pressurized air into your valve to seat a tubeless tire. Super lightweight and easy to transport. No compressor required, saving valuable space in the team van.
Abbey BB tool.
Digital angle box for measuring everything under the sun. Sometimes there is time to kill.
Who says only pro riders get their name on things?
You always need to know when start times are approaching, and you never know when hunger may strike! Always keep a watch and a fork close at hand.
This ratchet was worked on Hill's bike for 10 years. Talk about a trusty tool!
Some badass spring-loaded channel locks for when you need to get aggressive with a stuck part.
Possibly the most important tool in the box on those early practice days.
