First Look: Commencal's 2013 Freeride and Downhill Rigs

2013 brings a few new bikes and few tweaks to previous models. First up, the 2013 Supreme DH v3.
The new Supreme DH linkage is lighter and more active. Win win.
The larger 44/56 tapered headtube will enable you to run a larger variety of headsets.
Consistent with previous models, the Supreme DH maintains its large range of adjustability. You can swap it from short for the park to long for wide open courses.
Mikey Haderer blasting in Whistler on the new ride. That green really pops!
Curious how it performs, we put in a few laps on the Supreme DH. The changes to the suspension were immediately noticeable. The more linear rear end no longer felt as though it was hanging up over rocks and roots. Success! Note that production models will ship with a Fox 40 fork.
Commencal Young Gun ripper Casey Brown had a lot of success on the Supreme DH at Crankworx. Nice going, girl!
Another new ride for 2013 is the Supreme FR. It features 180mm travel, a 64-degree head angle, and 437mm chainstays.
The Supreme FR is loaded with everything you've come to expect from Commencal but in a robust freeride specific package.
Haderer lets loose on the FR. This bike felt like a light DH bike with very progressive suspension. We felt a bit more feedback on really rough stuff, but it was incredibly fast pumping in and out of turns and surprisingly stable drifting around turns.
We rode the FR down the same trails as the DH rig. It took all of it. A few times we were quite surprised at what it could take. It's a great bike for anything but pure DH - fun in the lower park but sometimes a handful up in Whistler's Garbanzo area.
Here's one for the up and comers, the Supreme 24. If you've got a youngster in the family looking for a bike that can keep up with what they can throw down, this may be the ticket.
