Bike Check: Cody Warren's Intense M9
Two-time downhill National Champion, Cody Warren, walks you through his Intense M9 downhill bike. By Jason Peters.
Cody runs a size large M9 that's sitting right at 40lbs in "full steel" mode. No titanium spring or bolts, just stock.
Shimano Saint through and through. His 11-23 rear cassette keeps a tight gear range and saves weight.
E.thirteen LG-1 chainguide and 38t chainring mounted up to 165mm Saint cranks.
The beauty of Intense frames, handmade in the USA.
Pro Components Atherton series bars and stem keep Cody attached to the bike. He runs 29.75-inch bar width and ODI Ruffian half-waffle grips.
Cody uses tubes with his Sun Ringle ADD Pro wheels even though they're tubeless compatible off the shelf.
FIRM is the name of Cody's suspension game. Note the trick little cable organizer. Factory pops, right there!
Cody is familiar with Specialized tires because of his past racing experiences. Without an official tire sponsor, he's choosing the Chunder model for his winter training.
The 2.35 tire width is fast and he lets them go as fast as possible with high pressures. Gotta keep the big boy rollin'.
Fresh grips, high levers and pedals at 5-clicks out. Cody's pieces of pickiness.
Cody rides clipless most of the time, but at this particular trail, he likes the mobility of flat pedals.
The little details make all the difference...
Dialing in suspension for each race plays a big part in his strategy. Thanks to Cody, JDD and Jason Peters for a look into this sweet downhill machine!
