Winner of the Teva Mountain Games Slopestyle Gains Automatic Entry into Kokanee Crankworx Invitational Event

The Teva Mountain Games announces that the winner of its mountain bike slopestyle competition will receive an automatic invitation to the new Teva Best Trick Showdown and Red Bull Joyride Qualifying event at Kokanee Crankworx on July 21.

"We have developed a new invitation format that will ensure the best athletes are here in Whistler to compete in the Teva Best Trick Showdown and Red Bull Joyride," says Darren Kinnaird, Kokanee Crankworx general manager. "Teva is a new sponsor at our festival and we’re pleased to extend an invite to the winner of the slopestyle competition at the Teva Mountain Games.”

The Teva Slopestyle presented by Chipotle has grown to be one of the most anticipated events at the Teva Mountain Games in Vail. It will take place on Friday, June 3, on a professionally designed course at Golden Peak in Vail. The competition is open to professional and amateur riders, with qualifying rounds starting at noon and finals at 6 p.m. All contestants in the Teva Slopestyle will receive a free pair of Teva’s new freeride shoe, the Links, designed in collaboration with pro rider Jeff Lenosky.

A panel of judges will determine the Teva Slopestyle winner as well as the “High Jump” prize during a bonus round. The prize purse for the competition is $8,000. The slopestyle winner will also receive an invitation to compete in the qualifying rounds at Kokanee Crankworx. If the Teva Mountain Games winner has already received an invite to compete at Crankworx, the invite will go to the top finishing athlete who has not received an invite. Pro and amateur athletes can register here.

“Teva launches its first freeride shoe, the Links, this spring and we’re committed to helping build the freeride platform,” adds Joel Heath, global director of marketing for Teva. “We’re pleased to support freeride at both the Teva Mountain Games and Kokanee Crankworx, as well as enable some of the top riders in the sport to tell their stories.”

Kokanee Crankworx has already issued 15 athlete invitations to the Teva Best Trick Showdown and Red Bull Joyride. Another 10 invitations will be determined through 2011 Freeride Mountain Bike Association rankings and the winner of the Teva Mountain Games slopestyle event. On July 23, Kokanee Crankworx will crown the best freeride mountain biker in the world with $25,000 on the line for first place.
