PR: TRESTLE BIKE PARK ANNOUNCES NEW DOWNHILL MOUNTAIN BIKE EVENT
TRESTLE BIKE PARK ANNOUNCES NEW DOWNHILL MOUNTAIN BIKE EVENT,
TRESTLE ALL-MOUNTAIN ENDURO – PRESENTED BY TREK
$10,000 minimum pro category purse, Aug 19-21
WINTER PARK, Colo., (April 13, 2011) – Unlike
any other experience in North America, Winter Park Resort’s Trestle
Bike Park announces a new event scheduled for the 2011 summer season, the Trestle All-Mountain Enduro race – presented by Trek.
Inspired
by the fastest growing events in Europe, the Enduro or All-Mountain
format involves multiple stages that take place on mostly downhill,
technical and physically demanding terrain. From August 19 to the 21,
his three day event will feature five stages in an individual time trial format. The minimum cash purse for Pro categories is set at $10,000.
“In
2009, Ross Schnell approached me with a vision of an event concept that
didn’t exist in North America - an event that would change the paradigm
for major bike events,” said Trestle Bike Park Manager
and GM of Crankworx Colorado, Bob Holme. “The goal of the event would
be to focus on races that could determine the best all-around trail
rider in North America. The races also needed to focus on the fun of
racing mountain bikes.
Ross was tired of everybody talking about these races and nobody
actually promoting one. In 2011, the Trestle All-Mountain Enduro will be
a reality!”

“The
Trestle All-Mountain Enduro was born from the idea of promoting an
event that rewards the all-around, consistent rider,” said Ross Schnell,
renowned athlete and sponsored rider for Trestle Bike Park. “Winter Park is ideally located in the heart of the Rocky Mountains
and easily accessible (just 67 miles) from Denver. In addition, Trestle
Bike Park is one of the premier summer resort riding destinations in
the world with an expansive network of purpose built trails that is well
suited for an event of this magnitude.”
Trestle
Bike Park has a successful record of presenting challenging and
large-scale events, including Crankworx Colorado Freeride Festival and
Epic Singletrack Race Series. By adding the Trestle All-Mountain Enduro
race to the lineup, Trestle can reach the all-mountain market of
domestic and international riders. This new event is destined to raise
the bar for unique, athlete-focused events and to create another leader
of resort-based festivals in the world.
Friday, August 19
STAGE 1 – Chainless Downhill
As
the name states, this approximate 10 minute stage requires athletes to
remove their chain and rely on their energy, flow, and technique to
descend a technical course without the aid of a single pedal-stroke.
Saturday, August 20
STAGE 2 – 10-15 minute Enduro Downhill
STAGE 3 – 10-15 minute Enduro Downhill
STAGE 4 – 10-15 minute Enduro Downhill
Sunday, August 21
STAGE 5 – Trek All-Mountain Downhill Finale
This
30-40 minute stage will feature a loop of climbing and descending
before dropping through the entire vertical of Trestle Bike Park – 2000
feet. The athlete’s total time will be used to determine the start times
of this race. The fastest athlete in the previous 4 stages will go
first. The remaining riders will be staggered based on their total time
and will be subsequently chasing the leader to the finish. First rider
across the finish wins the overall!
“This summer the bike park will continue to expand and what better way to showcase these new trails
than host the first enduro stage race in North America,” continues
Schnell. “These multi-stage enduro races are very labor intensive to
promote, but the ability of the Winter Park crew to put on top-notch
events goes without saying. They’ve been doing it for years with events
like Crankworx Colorado and the Winter Park ‘Epic Singletrack’ Race
Series.”

Hell yeah! Just hope I can take 5 days away from home for this.
One correction though: it's not "the first enduro stage race in North America," as Ross says. The Fears, Tears and Beers enduro in Ely, NV has been around for 5 years.
