A Call to Action for Mountain Bikers: Reach out to Your Community!

Mountain biking is one of those things in life that is too good not to share. Almost everyone who falls in love with mountain biking works to convert the ones they are close to. A positive first experience mountain biking often leads to a lifelong passion for the sport. BetterRide Mountain Bike Skills Coaching is issuing a challenge to all of it's over 2,000 students to give back by finding ways to help facilitate healthy and sustainable growth of the sport.

BetterRide coaches do their part in different ways in their local communities. Head Coach Andy Winohradsky volunteers to teach a "Ride Leader Training Program" for the ride leaders of the local Trips for Kids chapter. Trips for Kids Denver/Boulder gives underserved, urban youth a chance to have adventures and learn about Colorado's natural environment from the seat of a mountain bike. Learning to enjoy nature in a positive, healthy, and exciting way can make a huge difference to child.

BetterRide Founder Gene Hamilton teaches clinics for COMBA (Colorado Mountain Bike Association) ride leaders. Ride leaders attend these clinics to learn how to effectively instruct beginner riders that they are introducing to the sport on their popular "beginner rides". COMBA works to educate riders to enjoy the sport in a way that is conducive to sustainable use of our public lands for riding. Gene helps COMBA ride leaders learn teaching techniques that will increase enthusiasm and safety for new riders.

In Caldwell, ID, BetterRide certified coach Joe Dondero operates the local BMX track, and spends his time helping kids (young and old) make progress on the bike and in life. In Marin County, BetterRide instructor Dylan Renn leads racing skills clinics for his local high school team, the Drake Pirates Mountain Bike Team.

An increase in Mountain Biker community outreach, education, advocacy, and volunteering is needed to help our growing sport. What can you do to spread the positive message of mountain biking in your community?
