2010 Full Tilt Mountain States Cup
Full Tilt returns to Mountain Village as part of the 2010 Mountain States Cup Series.
August 16, 2010 (Mountain Village, Colo.) – Cross-country. Hill Climb. Downhill. Super-D. That’s right, Full Tilt returns to Mountain Village as part of the Mountain States Cup Race Series, the largest full-discipline (endurance and gravity) race series in the United States. As its host, Mountain Village is amped to be stop number seven, August 20 through August 22.
To kickoff the weekend events, riders will compete in the Cross-Country and Super-D races. Then on Sunday, participants will vie for the win in two race disciplines: Hill Climb and Downhill. Both the Downhill and Cross-Country events are qualifiers for the 2011 USA Cycling Mountain Bike National Championships. The cost to compete ranges from $25 to $55 depending on the event, category and class.
As for the race course terrain, riders can expect some surprises in all disciplines. Over the past two years, the Town of Mountain has added new bike trails to its inventory, and most recently built the Mountain Village Bike Park which has caught the attention of gravity junkies alike.
“We are looking forward to featuring the newly constructed Mountain Village Bike Park to the dedicated athletes in this industry,” said Recreation Director Tony Forrest. “And to boot, we have mapped out cross-country courses that are brand new to Full Tilt and its participants. Without a doubt, every rider is in for a treat.”
For interested racers, the best way to register for the event is online at racemsc.com. The online registration deadline is Thursday, August 19 at 7 a.m. Printable forms are also available for download on the Mountain States Cup Web site; forms may be e-mailed to info@racemsc.com no later than Wednesday, August 18 at 5 p.m. No faxes, please. On-site registration will be available at the Hope Garden in Mountain Village beginning Friday, August 20. Again, for all registration details, visit Mountain States Cup Web site at racemsc.com.
Riders needing a comfortable place to stay, Cappella Telluride, the Inn at Lost Creek, The Peaks Resort & Spa, and the Mountain Lodge at Telluride are offering Full Tilt-only discounted lodging packages. And for a cool drink, Colorado Native will be pouring samples of its beer as a proud sponsor of Mountain States Cup. Redeem coupons for a free beer at the Hop Garden Saturday, August 21 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Riders must be 21 or over to participate in the Colorado Native sampling.
Those who can’t make the event, the Town of Mountain Village and LiveSauce will provide live race coverage via the Web Saturday and Sunday at www.townofmountainvillage.com/FullTiltLive; broadcast times will be noted. Spectators who want to not only watch all the action in person but also participate on foot, Yeti Cycles and the town are recruiting volunteer course marshals. Volunteer hours are Friday, August 20 from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday, August 21 and Sunday, August 22 from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Full or half-day shifts are available. For more information or to sign up to volunteer, call (970) 369-8236. Lunch and a Full Tilt T-shirt will be provided to those who volunteer at least four hours of service.
To make the Full Tilt event possible, Mountain Village has teamed up with the event’s production crew and organizer Bigfoot Productions and Yeti Cycles. Bigfoot was established in 2006 in conjunction with Yeti Cycles to expand and improve the Mountain States Cup Series and promote bike industry involvement in racing. In addition, this event is made possible with the support of local business sponsors including (in alphabetical order) BootDoctors & Paragon Sports, Capella Telluride, DAKINE, Diggity Doggs, Mountain Lodge at Telluride, Mountain Village Bike Park, San Miguel Bike Alliance, SUNRISE, Telluride Daily Planet, Telluride Mountain Village Owners Association, Telluride Ski & Golf Company, Telluride Sports, The Peaks Resort & Spa, and the Town of Mountain Village.

ABOUT MOUNTAIN VILLAGE
Mountain Village, situated in the heart of the breathtaking San Juan Mountains, was incorporated in 1995 as a home rule municipality. Its founders envisioned a European-style ski-in/ski-out, pedestrian-friendly destination resort that would complement the historic mining town of Telluride. A three-stage gondola transportation system connects the Town of Mountain Village with the Town of Telluride. Situated at 9,500 feet, Mountain Village is comparably a world apart from other resorts: it is innately spectacular, beautifully orchestrated and planned, and overflowing with style, charm and sophistication. For more information, please visit us on the Web at www.townofmountainvillage.com.

I think it was the 360 event not msc that we raced 4X about the same timeframe as the world cup, sorry for the confusion, I have hit my head a couple times since then

Every one will race the World Cup DH track, there are go-around's at all the big features. I don't think they will be taped off for any category since they will be open for practice. We were hoping to do a Slalom/4X this year but couldn't get a commitment to MSC in time. It is in the plan for next year however! It's gonna be a great race! Super D has been taped and it looks to be a surprise! bring your FS bikes!

First: Looks like the MSC crew has decided to run all DH competitors on the same track. More info at: http://www.racemsc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1645
Second: LIVE WEB BROADCASTING! Sweet action! Since I'll be at my cousin's wedding this weekend I'll try and tune in and check that business out. You can also follow the webcast on the MSC website at this linker: http://www.racemsc.com/events/fulltiltintelluride.html
Third: There's been a 4X in Telluride for an MSC race? When? In the 90's?

yes we did race a msc 4X and it was large, i think what dan is saying is that for the maximum mileage of $ there should be more events to make the drive more worthwhile not that it isn' t as is but with the current state of affairs we are all looking to get more bang for the buck

@Turman/Corley, yes there have been 4X races here in the past. The first was for the Telluride 360 event in 2002 which was a stop on the UCI MTB World Cup. In 2003 and 2004 (I think) there were 4X races for the Jeep KOM series. Course was set up on Misty Maiden just above the Mountain Village base area. I would have to dig to see if we did MSC 4X those years, I just cant remember.

@bturman...that is a good question, don't know. The early season schedule had 4X on the books, but $$$ priorities ixed-nayd the event, from what was posted by Darner in MSC forums, (big tease). Such an amazing location, views and terrain, it would have been great to add 4X to the decision process of making the drive and wkend. I would be interested to see how the attendance #'s compare between say C.B. which had both DH and 4X and Full Tilt w/"only" DH. All of this of course is completely self serving as I love 4X. However, with the #'s of kids in bmx around, 4X really could be a great transition into other venues of MSC race offerings. Those amazing bmx kids charge hard deep into their teens and twenties even, seems like a no brainer captive marketing audience that could grow the number of gravity participants. Trying not to get on a bigger soapbox, I can appreciate the financial side of the R.O.I. of a 4X course construction and race vs. DH build and race. Bottom line, just hope that we don't start to have more gravity venues w/out 4X...it is so much fun!

@dancorley, has Telluride ever had DS or 4X at a MSC event?
dancorley
8/16/2010 9:12 PM
Names aside, no gravity venue is complete w/out DS at minimum, roll in some 4X and you've done the racers right. I know budget was an issue for this year, just hope there isn't a precedent being tested or set for future Full Tilts. Cuz right now it feels like a Partially Complete Tilt. Fill it up for real next year please!

I totally get where you are coming from ... a new name would make things simpler. Looking forward to the event and watching all the riders compete. It should be one of the best Full Tilt events ever!

CITY OF TOWNSVILLE SUMMIT HALMET OR MUNICIPALITY OF COMMUNITYTON ON VERY LARGE HILL NEIGBORHOOD WOULD HAVE BEEN A SWEETER NAME.
LOOKING FORWARD TO THE RACING AT TOWN OF MOUNTAIN VILLAGE THOUGH! SEE YOU THERE.
Town of Mountain Village

The Town of Telluride is located below the Town of Mountain Village. Mountain Village is where many of the regional bike trails are located including the new Mountain Village Bike Park. Also, Mountain Village pays for the free gondola that transports people and riders between the two towns in order to access the trails. Mountain Village and Telluride are not the same, so that is why you just can't call the Town of Mountain Village the Town of Telluride. One last note, it is the Town of Mountain Village that is working with Yeti Cycles and Bigfoot Productions to put on the Full Tilt event, and the government entity that has earmarked dollars to host this event, not Telluride. Thus again, it is appropriate to name Mountain Village, not Telluride. I hope this clears up any confusion.

MOUNTAIN VILLAGE? CAN'T JUST CALL IT TELLURIDE?
