Sam Hill, Manon Carpenter Fastest in Andorra - World Cup Qualifying Results 22

The steepest, gnarliest track of the World Cup downhill season is making for great racing as qualifying took place today in Andorra. Sam Hill (Team CRC Nukeproof) returned to form in the Elite Men's class, Manon Carpenter (Saracen) edged out the dominating Rachel Atherton (GT Factory Racing) by 3-seconds and Michael Jones was fastest in the Junior Men's class.

Sam Hill with a 4:20.66 was just .046 ahead of 2nd place Greg Minnaar (Santa Cruz Syndicate) with season-dominating Gee Atherton (GT Factory Racing) in 3rd place, just 1.344 back. Last year's World Cup overall winner, Aaron Gwin (Specialized Racing) had a less-than-stellar result some 20-seconds off the pace, while fellow American, Neko Mulally (Trek World Racing) put up a stellar top 10 time just behind Brendan Fairclough (GSTAAAD Scott) who finished 9th. Brook MacDonald (Trek World Racing) shows up as a DNF. He's had shoulder troubles and possibly only rolled out of the start gate to guarantee a race spot on Sunday with his protected Top 20 status.

Stories that aren't getting enough talk: Remi and Lorenzo, 5 and 6! And Brendan got 9th with a flat... just saying.

You forgot Sam a bad mofo on steep tracks? Hope he gets this win. Gwin is all spaced out this season, Goat status in jeapordy. Watch out for the french racers.

Well you could never call someone as prestigious as the GOAT just for dominating two seasons, haha. Who would be considered the GOAT of DH? Peaty? Gee is well on his way, that's for sure.

Also this seems like it'll be one of the most exciting WC races in a while.

Nico Voilloz is clearly the GOAT. No comparison. Total and complete domination. Peat has won more races, but he's also raced for twice as long. No one has come close to what Nico did.

Welp there we go! Haha, Nico was/is those rare few on a different level... I guess longevity is not the only deciding factor in this... it's hard to compare anyone to Ricky in the first place but fun otherwise to discuss.

Got my fingers crossed for Sam!! Gee's time is pretty amazing too, considering he's never been on the track until a day or two ago. The quali times seem to reflect a big advantage for those that have already raced this brand new monster of a track.

Hill didn't race the track before either... Minnaar did race it on the test event though..

Yeah, was referring to Minaar and Carpenter mostly... I know Simmonds was there for CRC and I thought I'd read that Sam was there early practicing ( not racing ), but maybe not.

I think he's there since the beginning of the week like everyone else, but either way, GO HILL!

I think Gwin should switch to the Status, it's been on the podium this year. The Demo not so much.

Might want to re-think that.... Troy's demo was on the podium at Val Di Sole.

Stoked to see Hill up top, Brendawg top 10, Luca top 5 Junior. Bruni starting to scare me. We don't need another run of French domination like back in the Alien days. That kid is blasting.

Can't forget Mulally, and GAS TO FLAT BACK IN THE GAME.
