RESULTS: Wyn Masters and Cecile Ravanel Win Rotorua EWS 3

It's a Kiwi clean sweep in the Men's, and a familiar sight on the top of the podium in the Women's as the rain swept in and turned the first EWS race of the season on its head.

With a huge rainstorm hitting Rotorua just as the Pro Men set off, it was business as unusual for many of the pre-race favorites. After the first stage, Rude was in 79th spot, Maes sat in 86th, and Graves 109th. The Kiwis were out to make the most of their home field advantage, with the Masters brothers and Matt Walker right in the mix from the get go. As the day went on, conditions improved, and the riders were fighting to make up for the morning's lost time. Sam Hill won two stages on his way to 4th, Adrien Dailly also had two stage wins and would end up in 7th (just ahead of a tired but happy Ratboy in 8th!). Richie Rude got out of survival mode to win stage 6 and claw his way back up to 20th position, salvaging important points for the overall race in the process. Eddie Masters won stages 2 and 3 and was holding onto the overall lead until a flat saw him slip down the order to eventually finish in third. At the end of the day, consistency paid off for Wyn Masters who took the overall and his first ever EWS win despite not winning a single stage.

In the women's, Cecile Ravanel picked right up where she left off last year - 6 out of 7 stage wins and a winning margin of over 3 minutes. Behind her it was all up for grabs though, and Ines Thoma and Anita Gehrig made the most of the day to claim the remaining podium spots.
