The course was dialed, the weather played ball, and even the internet was on good form - the slopestyle finals at Colorado Freeride Festival went off with a bang! It became clear early on that the game had reached another level - Rogatkin nailed a cashroll, Thomas Genon threw down a sick run with combos on every feature to take the lead after run 1 with a 89.
By run 2 things were getting wild. Peter Henke closed a stomped run with a huge double backflip to take the lead after his second run with a 91.6. Pilgrim upped his game with a backflip off the top drop, and a 720 off the last booter - 91 was enough for second after his run. MTB newcomer Nicholi Rogatkin put together another unique run including a perfect cashroll (2nd cashroll he landed on the day!), mixed in with some unique looking tricks. 87.8 was his reward, 4th at the time (he would finish 6th). Genon dropped in for his second run sitting in third - and incredibly found more! Frontflip tuck no hander to close a fantastic run that also included an x-up to tailwhip and a double tailwhip netted Thomas a 91.3, and he took over 2nd spot at the time. Brayden Barrett-Hay couldn't hold onto the last feature which spoiled an otherwise good looking run. Up next, Martin "The Machine" Soderstrom pulled a super clean 2nd run with tricks on all the features and lot of variations, including a perfect 360 double whip over the last feature to end up with a 94.6 and the lead! Into the top 3 qualifiers, Anton Thelander nailed his second run with lots of amplitude and signature clean landings to grab a 91.4 and third place, pushing Genon off the podium into 4th. Unfortunately, Logan Peat couldn't put it together for his second run and would not capitalize on his good qualifying performance. In a bit of an anticlimax, Messere would not return after his first run crash, leaving Soderstrom on top with the win.
