Greg Minnaar Injury Update, Knee Surgery Likely

Greg Minnaar's knee injury during practice at the Leogang World Cup will likely lead to surgery this off-season.

Greg said, “I was coming to a section in practice and my back wheel slipped off a log," said the reigning World Champ.  "I tried to run it out and I didn’t really hit the floor.  I was waiting for a gap in riders to go back up to get my bike and when I leaned forward to cross the track my knee flipped backwards.  I rode down the side of the track to the pits knowing I had done something pretty bad. I’ve torn the meniscus and ACL, and as far as I know I’ll need surgery."

Greg, everyone at Vital wishes you a speedy recovery!

I torn my ACL and a litte part of the meniscus. during a operation the removed the torn ACL and a little part of the torn meniscus. now after 3 months its still painfull... bending my knee under pressure is painfull! and it feels a little unstable... it wants to bent the wrong way...kinda like a birds leg. Does any one know what to do?! Training the muscles or should I do surgery and get one of those ACL reconstructions?

I saw that crash in person, hardly looked anything serious when it happened, just goes to show the serious out come of even a minor crash when you go down wrong. All the best Greg

A torn ACL takes a year to heal and rehab. I hope this doesn't mean Greg Minnaar's retirement.

Not always. Depends on how bad the tear is. Plus hes a professional athlete. Look at someone like Lindsey Vonn. She tore her ACL back in Mid February and is expected to be ready to start skiing Olympic Qualifiers late this fall.
