Last I checked pro downhillers are athletes and a great rider should be able to win on any kind of course. It isn't the ideal course but it sure seemed to produce some good racing this year! Downhill needs variety in courses otherwise it get stale in a way. not every DH course has to be big and burley, because not every country has that kind of terrain.

I just think it's lame to race the same course twice in one year... WC should be on a track that is not part of the UCI tour.

as awesome as tech stuff is there needs to be a balance of world champs courses that challenges different aspects of the sport. since extreme fitness has been a part of the sport for a few years now these pedally courses give the riders a challenge. the guys who can steam roll roots and tech needs to be prepared for a course like this physically, just as a guy who can pedal his split down 2 seconds needs to be prepped for tech stuff. a real champ is going to be the guy who does well on both and that's why these courses are needed not just in the world cup series but also in champs as well. im glad to see it there for 2013, you'll see the guys who weren't prepped heaving for air while the guy who really wanted it is on the top step

LAME!!! First Canberra and now pietermaritzburg.. Downhill world champs should be at a non pedally and very technical course. Pedalling is for xc. I wonder if riders like sam hill or gee atherton are even going to be motivated to train for world champs 2013? This sucks..

a World Champion should have no problem pedaling their asses off on the flat sections of PMB.
