i want to learn.

i want a semi-cheap mountain bike but i have no idea whats what.. what are the good completes... good types of parts? can you help me out..?

Coming from bmx,your going to have a bad case of sticker shock.A good hard tail starts out at around high 6's-700sh.at this price range you have weeded out the junk.Look for at least low end(deore) shimano or sram parts.Best to get a good frame and upgrade.Take a spin through my fave.co.page(links)

Doesnt live in a tent under a chairlift.

go for the good old STP, great starting bike and not to bad of a price. i have one and i love it, there a good all rounder, skatepark, dirt and street (hence the name Street, Trail Park)

i know im going to cop alot of shit for saying that haha

I would agree with bloghogs do a ton of research and find the best bike for the buck there are many offerings in the market place it is best to get the best frame fork combo and as things start to shear off you should be able to replace them with better parts. learn from research.
