Okay, I must be going crazy.

I'm counting my chain links so I can get a few back-up chains to the right length. But I've counted 3 times and I keep getting 55 links. I have a 24 speed XC bike, so how can this be? Shouldn't it be about 115 links? I don't get it...

you are counting the inner and outer plates as one link...they are 2 links

multiply your number times 2. Just lay your two chains next to one another and cut them to match lengths. Your current chain is 111 links.
