So there were white components...
Then there was argyle for a while.
Then there was paisley for about 40 minutes.
Then there was houndstooth for a year or so.
Now there's purple ano? What else?

What are you calling out as the next hot trend for us to run out and buy?

ps- "Colorway" is a ridiculous term. Unless you're a product line manager, you probably needn't use it.

People took that thread in the exact direction I figured they would which was talk about what they want to be dead. If you check it, I asked about what past trends people are glad to see gone, not asking people to complain about any current doings a'transpirin'. One example I gave was super long stems and if you got the new Dirt, you will coincidentally see a write up in there about "RIP Long Stems."

glad to see you're on the same page about 'colorways' though.

Shiz... you probably don't need to use phrases like "needn't use it". Just saying. The next IT color, you ask? Being that my jorrrrb does in fact allow me full usage rights of the term colorway, I feel as though I have a pretty good idear on this one:

Trans baby crap yella.

The older I get, the faster I was.

looking at a lot of 2010 products, it is tough to make a call about one color. there is a large spread of colors across the line up of big and small companies, but it looks like there is a strong emphasis on mutli-color schemes/fades/patterns.

2010 looks to be a year of unique paint jobs that set the makers apart as they wiz by the photogs on the trails. far too long have companies gone with just straight colors and stickers. now we are really starting to see some flash (that looks legit) and interesting colors/shades that stray from the the normal spectrum.

Transition has some cool stuff going on with two-tone schemes, same with the new 951 kits.
Evil is offering some rad options and Specializeds are looking Hot Rod-ish (thumbs up?).

I like the options we have this year.

"needn't use it" sounds just as pompous and absurd as "colorway" does to me. irony is hard to type.

when are we going to get that sarcasm font that typeface designers keep promising the interblags? call your people on that Chute.

I'd like to see a bike painted like that ubiquitous scene we get here in the Rockies- where that late afternoon sun pokes through the clouds and the rays illuminate some forgotten stretch of land and make it appear oh-so-holy. I'll call it the Jesus Light colorway.

Woodgrain would be nice.

Purple is still pretty huge, but not for long. I see raw finishes becoming more and more popular. I'll go with raw (raw aluminum, raw steel, raw titanium, visible carbon weave) and accented parts...with black or other tints and shades in a close second....

This forecast does not include the fixie scene

k.shiz I like your threads, there is finaly some forum where you can have a decent discussion on decent topics related to cycling... people actualy talk sense here!... you guys are just like me, better you know, better than others, I can finaly talk on the level, shit i forgot to lock ma JAAAAAG! - no just kiddin Smile

purple and retro silver is going to rip with racing bikes. and for the dirt/street: punky happy orgasm of colours of all kinds being as spoiled lack of esthetics as kids buying these.

I am personaly sick of white red black scheme. I mean I love it, I use it a lot in my arch projects, my bike was like that just before the hype came. It's as frustrating as discovering some new tune, you love it and then... they start playing it on MTV and on the radio!

PLUS I was an outcast because I rode DH on 6" bike, and then, Bearclaw ripped on Sx Trail in Roam it suddenly my bike became a New school of Freeride! You come to races and random people with Dh rigs look at your bike saying "woow, Ur gonna win" you have
some really fast bike there! Back off would ya!

HATE TRENDS HAAAATE! Smile

Would say that if the industry stays on the 90's trends wave that next trendy colours might be typical 90's style :
- painting spots

- and fluo colours.

Got rid of the brown for this is the colour of... no no not wood. Silver is the IT colour for me, brown is the **IT colour for everybody.

Trek used brown in their top Remedy. looks to me like someone there got inspired by those wooden details found in interiors of cars for old pricks with a strong need of manifesting their "status". I love Trek but I don't like Jaaaaag!

Agreed on the pompousity. I still stand behind my call of "trans baby crap yella" as the next trendy IT color. Even for fixie hipsters. Nay... ESPECIALLY for fixie hipsters. It'll be as trendy and "IT" as the Jersey Shore¡

In all seriousness though... I did see something about Specialized releasing a special, numbered, limited edition Sam Hill Demo 8 frameset in bright Monster green and black. Kawasaki's owned that color for years, but I'd bet one American dollar that everything MTB will be that color of green soon.

The older I get, the faster I was.

That color has been on Hill's bikes for a few years back on the first Sunday World Cup

I predict less crazy colors and a more refined palette. I also predict green being big and being all over frames, then next year being only a detail color. The Olympics will have propelled green into the spotlight and it will be over done by this time next year. Chrome is also coming back in a big way. People love the metal...

Can we all agree that Earth Tones are a bit played out in the bike industry? As far as "IT" colors, they're only getting brighter, and I don't really seeing it going away for at least a couple more years. Then Earth Tones will be back, mark my words.
