Hey, I bmx but want to get into some hardtail mtbing cause its looks so fucking dope on street and I have a alright hardtail, and too many people bmx. I have a kona shred 2009 model and want to make it a single speed so I dont have to deal with my derailer and all that heavy shit. So whats the CHEAPEST way to convert it? And lastly, do I assume bmx stems, maybe cranks, pedals, and shit like that would also fit on a mtb will they? I know some of them will. So ya please help on the cheapest way to convert it to single speed, this is the link to the 2010 version but its very similar to the 2009 kona shred 2010 model link

1. the stem wont fit cuz mtb bars are different sizes
2. the cranks would fit if you got a euro bb that matches the cranks spindle
3. pedals work with almost any crank arms

heres some links for ur single speed stuff
get some thing like this as a chain Tensioner cuz you have vertical dropouts

Is that all I need? And will that all fit fine will the conversion kit work with the hub that is on it? Also if possible can you find a link to how to do it all and like take off your front brakes and shifter and derailer crap that you dont need when its single speed? But thats all i need and like a chain tensioner? an it will fit fine?

its not that hard sorry couldnt find a vid

1. take the front wheel off
2. find a torx head to fit the bolts on the disk
3. take the caliper off the fork with the 2 5mm bolts that bolt it on
4. take the left grip off
5. loosen the bolt that hold the lever on
6. ohhh ya while your there loosen the bolt that hold the shifter on
7. there should be a bolt holding the front derailer on take that off
8. there are two ways to get the derailer off the chain you can cut a slot in front derailer or use a chain breaker to break the chain
9. take the cranks off and take the first chain ring off put your cranks back on and tighten your bolts
10. put the single speed pack on and shorten the chain to the rite tension

There you go you have a single speed bike!!

Congrats on switching to the 26'' world for street! Smile I am currently building the same thing, but different parts etc. I got a tension system known as the "no deraileur" that connects to the same chrome hanger as your rear deraileur and its made by Axiom. I also bought a single speed kit that came with spacers to take the space of all your cogs, and a 16tooth cog/rear sprocket. I also suggest using the gear ratio of having your front chain ring exactly twice as many teeth as your cog, like I am using a 32tooth for my 16tooth. You could convert it to a dialed dj bike for under $100. Feel free to check out my photo album to see the build so far and get an idea. Any more questions during your build, send me a message because the process is fresh in my head! Theses link may help.

How much do you think my 09 kona shred model would sell for. Oh and it looks like you could put pegs on it too can you?
