2014 Team Updates - Who's In, Who's Out?

Edited Date/Time: 1/7/2014 11:17 AM

2014 is upon us, and with a new year comes the inevitable shuffling of riders among the teams. Who's in, who's out - we'll keep you updated as news (and the odd rumor, perchance) trickle in, right here!

First up, lots of changes for Team CRC/Nukeproof. Long-time team rider Matt Simmonds is leaving the team (to go to Madison Saracen it would seem), making room for 2013 Junior World Champs bronze medalist Mike Jones to join Sam Hill and Joe Smith. CRC/Nukeproof have also taken the opportunity to snap up Sam Hill's long-term mechanic and friend Jacy Shumilak, which should be good for the team as well as for Sam himself.

Stay tuned, more as we get it!

In case you missed it earlier, Remy Absalon left Commencal to join Scott, where the long time "endurance DH" specialist will try to add to his long list of wins in events like the Megavalanche, as well as race the Enduro World Series.

Hannah Barnes is on a Yeti.

Hannah Barnes, one of the not always in the news but stunning female rider.

It's official, Matt Simmonds to Madison Saracen.

"We are extremely happy to announce that Matt Simmonds and Kazuki Shimizu will be joining Manon Carpenter and Sam Dale on the Madison Saracen Factory Race Team for 2014." - More here: http://www.saracen.co.uk/blog/06/01/2014/madison-saracen-factory-race-team-2014-line-up

So where's @Team Rumors this year? The day job can't be more important than team rumors. There is a void… And I'm available as a team mechanic for Specialized. It would right part of the wrong that they did to the DH/Freestyle team years ago by not hiring me as the mechanic leaving the XC guy to do all the work. I'll even forget my substantial grudge.

We knew already, but here's the official word:

"Colorado based Yeti Cycles and Silverfish UK are pleased to announce Scottish shredder Hannah Barnes as a 2014 team rider.

Hannah has continued to progress and grow as a rider over the seasons as she spends her summers chasing trails around Europe and her winters at home practicing as a nurse, skiing the Nevis range and riding her MTB. 2013 saw Hannah competing in everything from the big mountain Mega Avalanche and Trans Savoie competitions right through to rounds of the Enduro World Series and UK based competitions and events."

FULL ANNOUNCEMENT HERE.

Congrats Hannah - now you have a brand new bike to go with that mug!

This announcement puts Morgane Charre on Evil for 2014...also hinting at a name change for aforementioned Evil team. To be continued...

I really wish religious fundamentalists would just mind their own business. Don't blow stuff up because you don't agree, don't hate others who don't subscribe to your god and let me ride the bike that I want to. The "E" in E-13 stands for Evil, which the company used to be called. (I have one of the original "Evil" clear bash guards.) But the name was changed because some fundamentalist objected. I'm pretty sure that the original owner there started the current Evil? I say don't give in the the goody two shoes sons of bastards. Just because your bike says "Evil" doesn't mean that you have to be. Stay Evil, play nice! I'm "Evil for life." But I'm a really nice guy. Until you start telling me how to be.

Uhm I was just referring to the team no longer being called "Evil CK"....bur rather "Evil WC Team"....it may or may not have been deliberate. Nothing Evil afoot here Big Bird!

Spotted outside Cam Cole's van at round one of the New Zealand DH series in Christchurch taking place this weekend (Jan 18-19). Is the big guy going to be riding for the Andorran company in 2014? Last we heard, Cam was under contract with Yeti until the end of 2014, so this would come as a bit of a surprise if it turns out to be substantiated.

I guess that I got carried away. Evil for life!

More on the Cam Cole Yeti/Commencal mystery...this from Cam's own Instagram:

1/18/2014 10:58 AM

For future reference, there is 2 Hannah Barnes, the MTB Yeti riding one, and another one who shreds on the road.
Don't mix em up!

iXS team sponsorship announcement mentioned Morgane Charre riding for Evil??! She was riding for MS Mondraker last year, and her FB still mentions the same. Did iXS gaffe it, or was that a major typo?

EDIT! GAH! i see iceman posted it already!

This is how it could be. Graves got not 1 but two big offers. Putting ball in yetis court. To afford graves yeti had no choice but to ditch the WC DH team. Cole and Richie looking or already got rides. Tricky as Cole under contract still.
He might just be borrowing the commencal from good mate and old WC legend Darren Henderson who is running some NZ commencal Tld program.

1/18/2014 1:04 PM

interesting theory, but doesn't make sense as Yeti has a long history of supporting up and coming riders. They've never been afraid of losing their top dog.

I just assumed the Commencal belonged to one of the Hamilton brothers when first I saw that image. But, judging by the comments on his Instagram it is indeed Cam's new bike, which probably means a ride on the Commencal Team. It will be interesting to see if he's joined Hendi's team, which if true is a huge signing for them!

I guess we'll find out sooner rather than later...
