I earn my down hill runs.In fact it seems I climb more than anything.Im not knocking dual suspension(it certainly has it's place)but I just dont need it.I cant see myself riding a big hit bike around town,at the skate park,or any urban setting.Theres plenty of mountains and fire roads around, and Ive never really found myself wishing for a rear shock.Must be some reason you see plenty of hard tales racing XC and 4X.In my world, what goes flying down the hill has to grind back up the hill.

8/4/2009 6:56 PM I ride xc on my dh race bike. I also race dh on my xc bike. Yeah, I only have one bike, but it works for me. I am hoping to get a dedicated dh racer though.

10/10/2009 2:11 AM I personally don't like shocks at all. I ride XC Trails and all shocks do is kill your energy when you ride up steep hills. Maybe I'll get used to it, I just moved over to MTB from BMX recently.

12/30/2009 4:11 AM I ride a hardtail, but when i want to get rough and fast..i change my wheels and tyres. 2.3's on a HT makes it very capable..

1/13/2010 1:52 AM I ride only hardtails, even if there is down the hill or up the hill. Of course a full suspension bike would do the job alot more efficiant down the hill than all the HT's you´ve ever tried Bloghogs but sure uphill you can never get wrong with a hardtail.
i´ve been useing a 140mm fork on my trail bike for all forms of terrain. Maybe illustrated pic would do the job ^^

Hi there,
I have switched from the road to the mountains. What are the main advantages and disadvantages of using a hardtail instead of dual suspension? This is relating to XC and not DH. Thanks |

2/9/2010 1:26 PM A hard tail will out climb and out accelerate any dual suspension bike. They are lighter and have more pedaling efficiency.
On the down side, obviously a harsher ride.On a hard tail, you get really good at riding around with your butt about two inches above the seat. |
