Rookie Brake Question

5/29/2011 4:58 PM

I'm new to hydraulic brakes. After a few rides and my pads wore down I'm almost hitting the bars with my brake lever. Is there a way to tighten the pull like on mechanical ones? They're Hayes Nine brakes if that matters, not sure of the year though.

Thanks

A few rides is nowhere near enough to wear out a set of pads, unless they were all gnarly mud rides. More likely you've got a leak in the hydraulic system. Go to a bike shop. Also, I've heard a lot of complaints about those brakes. Consider switching to something more reliable.

like big bird said you shouldnt have gone through the pads, but there is a 2.5mm allen screw behind the lever blade you can use to move the levers out so they dont hit the bar, if you continue to have issues have them bled at the shop, if your still having issues replace them, ive never been a fan of hayes myself, theyre pretty unreliable and a pain to bleed but they work on a budget.

just got them bled the other day and it didn't change anything. I'll try moving the lever out. thanks
